Solid product, worth the price

I was looking for an external hard disk for backup for a long time and upon enquiring my industry friends about which one to buy, they recommended me Lacie. It came as they promised (I ordered USB 3.0 cable version and I received an extra C type cable too - My system has both) and also I registered the product online to activate their data recovery plan as well.

Don't buy garbage product

Lacie, a premium Hard Disk (now from Seagate) available in the market. This is a rugged HDD, where the writing and reading speed are excellent. Definitely any one can purchase this product without any doubt.

Awesome product at this price point. I also think that the pouch pic is there by mistake as the drive does not require a pouch, since it’s Rugged. Hope the seller corrects the listing.

GOT A DOA product (dead of arrival) and amazon replaced it with a working functional drive in 9 hours. Awesome service and speed. Point is -one should know how to use the product

I bought two of these, both 2TB, for use as backup drives for my main PC. So far I'm pretty impressed! Just for clarity - these are mechanical hard disk drives (HDD) as opposed to solid state drives (SSD). LaCie sell both versions in the Rugged mini range, but the 2TB SSD versions are considerably more expensive. For my needs, i.e. a long term back-up that will sit in a drawer, the HDD version was the best option. The drives are shock resistant, pressure resistant and rain resistant, coming with the distinctive orange bumper case. They are small is size and look smart with the silver/orange colour combo. These are great drives for throwing in your backpack (not that I'll be doing much of that). The drives comes with a connecting cable - in this case a USB 3.0 Micro-B (on the HDD) going to a USB-C on the PC. OK, I'd have preferred USB-C at each end, but no big deal. There's a distinctive LED light on the drive when it's running, so no issue of accidentally unplugging whilst the PC is accessing it. The drives come formatted as exFAT (readable by PC and MAC). They have installed software that allows you to easily register the drive with LaCie (actually Seagate who own LaCie). They come with a generous 3 year warranty and data recovery. I reformatted my drives to NTFS as I'm using them exclusively on PCs. I haven't done any geeky measures of speed - but would say they seem plenty fast to me! Final thought - the price for these seems to be very variable with Amazon. I've seen them advertised for around £90, then seen other listings with lower prices. Be assured, these came brand new, unopened, with cable and a full 3-year warranty direct from Amazon - don't hesitate to buy one is you see it in the £50 - £70 ball park.

I was particularly pleased to be able to purchase this 2TB rugged Mini for less than £40 from Amazon Warehouse. The Rugged Mini uses the slower USB 3 interface which is fine as I am using it to back up an older stand alone Mac. It came in a plain bubble wrapped pouch with no documents and without a USB 3 MicroB cable. For the price I am not complaining. It registered with Lacie for the warranty and the cable I purchased arrived the next day. Back-up done.
