Mcgraw - Hill's Conquering the New Gre Verbal and Writing Paperback – 25 April 2011

Great book for beginners. Ample practice. Good exercises. Definitely worth buying. Quality of content and exercises is pretty decent and well chosen.

I bought this book because my worst score was in the writing section since English is not my native language and my vocabulary is rather short, so I wanted to improve it.This book gives the general introduction to the GRE and the verbal and writing sections, it gives some good examples and exercises, but its content can be found easily on the internet, and there are better exercises in the Manhattan books, the official GRE book, the Kaplan book, the GRE page (for the essays), the major tests page for every section, quizlet for words and tests, mangoosh for the schedule and some other things, etc.If you are just starting to study I'd recommend to get your schedule from the Mangoosh page, and buy at least the official GRE guide, if you can afford the other books (Manhattan 5 lbs and 8 book series, Kaplan, etc.) buy them!If you can't, don't worry, as I said, there's ton of material in the internet (Major tests page, quizlet, etc.) and your smartphone (specially flashcards and math formulas)I wouldn't recommend this book if you can buy the aforementioned, get access to the web pages and download apps for your smartphone.

Was a good overview of what will be on the GRE.

It contents one set of samples scoring 6, 4 and 2 for both argument and issue parts to be compared with your own writing. This is extremely helpful.
