Good As A Reference Guide As Well....
I've been an A+ Certified Technician since 2001, but this book really gave me the edge I needed to fully understand more about Windows XP Pro and Microsoft Office hands-on installations, configurations, troubleshooting, securing and networking with other computers in a corporate setting.I haven't taken the test for MCP yet, but this volume certainly has me ready to do so any day now, if you're looking to learn Windows XP Pro and MS Office 2003, drop everything you're reading and buy this book, and also, keep it real handy after you are "done" studying it, because is very useful as a reference book as well. I Hope this review will be helpful.

Bloody awesome
I took my test today and came close to maxing out, 972....study hard the reviews at the end of the book. When taking the test, read the questions AND answers carefully, kind of like the old school days, an answer may "look" right but it could be one word off. Keep the books, don't resell them, I've already gone back into 70-271 and reviewed a few things. handy to have on hand when you deal with it every day. Very thorough in my opinion. Just a humble IT geek working on his certs.....

Passed The Test!
Bought this and was able to pass the test easily after reading. I read the whole thing, did the review questions, did the practice tests and then took the real test and didn't have trouble passing. I'd say I studied for a total of a month.

MCDST
Micro$oft has found the cure for insomnia with this book. Another Micro$oft Masterpiece straight from the boring put me to sleep aisle of the library. I use this book for a fly swatter more than I do for study.

Unfortunately, not one of my favourite technical manuals
this was the driest computer/technical manuals that I have ever read. Information was not presented in a way that would be consistent with any learning styles that I am familiar with. Most disappointing.

Great Windows XP Book
I think this book is great because it covers so much of Windows XP from understanding the operating systems to moving files. I learn much about task manager and how to rollback drivers. Anything that has to do with Windows XP is pretty much in this book. Keep this book handy because it is a great reference book when you need to fix a problem.

Does exactly what it says on the tin...
After just over 2 years working in IT support, with the CompTIA A+ and Network+ under my belt, I thought it was time to get some Microsoft certs under my belt to back up my experience.Just in case you didn't know, the MCDST comprises two exams; 70-271 and 70-272. Pass one, and you're an MCP. Pass both, and you're an MCDST.Don't assume just because Windows 7 is out, that the MCDST is a dead cert either; many large organisations still have and will continue to use XP for years to come and, unlike the newer M$ certificates, the MCDST will never expire (newer certs expire when support for the relevant OS expires). The MS Press books are the de-facto texts for the MCDST exams. The book is well laid-out, clear, and has few errors. The end of chapter review questions are quite good, though the readiness questions on the accompanying CD leave a little to be desired; they are poorly worded and littered with grammatical and spelling errors. If you're after review questions only, I would look at an Exam Cram book; if it's a good overview of material you want, then get this book.
