"Everyday Raw" Is An EXCELLENT Cookbook by Matthew Kenney!!!!

*by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2008*

I purchased this book mainly because I already have "Raw Food Real World" Cookbook by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis. Because I Love the first one so well, I didn't give a second thought to purchasing this one, and I'm glad I did, I love it! It has 144 pages of really Fabulous recipes, and in this book he focuses on keeping it simple which is just what I wanted. There are plenty of blended & squeezed smoothies and juices in this book such as: The Blue Green, which is one of his personal smoothie favorites. Immunity, another smoothie high in antioxidants, almond milk, brazil nut milk, Triple C, a favorite morning smoothie, chocolate-cherry smoothie, Vanilla-E, The Classic, with Strawberries and Bananas and Almond Milk, Banana Almond Butter Cup Smoothie, Mango Raspberry, Mint Cacao Cooler, The Muscle, a great protein smoothie, and one called the Best Smoothie, similar to a Pina Colada. Also, Raspberry-Agave Lemonade, Hot Ancho Cacao, Sweet Green Juice, Grapefruit Cleanser Juice. He also has a chapter with snacks such as Citrus Maple Granola, Mixed Candied Nuts, Curried Cashews, Blueberry-Almond Granola Bar, Raspberry Vanilla-Almond Granola, Chili-Lime Macadamia Nuts, Chocolate-Ginger Macaroons, Vanilla-Almond Macaroons, Super Goji-Cacao-Maca Bars, Almond Crumbs, Raw Chocolate Chip Cookies, Raw Chocolate Chips. Then he has an unbaked section which includes Cumin Flatbread, Herb Crackers, Golden Tortilla Chips, Za'atar Flatbread, Bar-B-que Crisps. Then there is the next section called Starters which include Blueberry Pancakes, Eggplant Bacon, Cucumber-White Grape Gazpacho, Portobello Sausage, Tofu Scrambler, Sesame Cashew Dumplings, Miso Soup, Silken Tofu, Marinated kalamata Olives, Savory Crepes. Then the Spreads, Dips & Sauces such as Chipotle Mayo, Red Chili-Pineapple Dipping Sauce, Sweet Chili-Lime Sauce, Macadamia Hummus, Salsa Fresca, Mango Guacamole, Macadamia Feta Cheese, Macadamia Red Pepper Cheese, Pineapple Mango Salsa, Black Olive Pesto, Lemon-Thyme Yogurt Sauce, Roasted Pepper Hummus With Lime, Chili, & Sour Cream. Then come the Salads with Blue Green Salad, Spicy Almond Dressing, Seaweed Salad, Ginger-Miso Dressing, Potato Salad, Potato Salad Dressing, Creamy Sesame Dressing, Thai Salad, Creamy Thai Dressing, Tabbouleh, Sweet Miso Dressing, Blood Orange-Crispy Fennel Salad, & Blood Orange Dressing. Then the Larger Dishes such as Tomato Basil & Ricotta Pizza, Mango Wraps, Portobello Fajitas, Pasta Primavera, Baked Macaroni & Cheese, Rosemary-Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Portobello Steaks, Summer Rolls, Tomato Torta With Pesto & Macadamia Ricotta, & Pad Thai. Then comes Desserts such as Mocha Pudding, Vanilla Creme, Strawberry Tart, Agave Caramel, Mocha Glaze, Sweet Cacao Sauce, Coconut Creme Anglaise, Pumpkin Pie With Thyme, Lemon Macaroon Cheesecake Tartlet, Chocolate hazelnut Tart, Chocolate Cookie Crumbs, Key Lime Tartlets, Vanilla Mint Flan, Frozen Goji Berry Souffle, Maca-Cacao Truffles, Warm Fudge Brownie, & Hot Fudge. Then the Ice Cream section with Mint Cacao Chip Ice Cream, Cherry Chip Ice Cream, Chocolate pieces, Ice Cream Cones, Strawberry Sorbet, Creamsicles, Almond Gelato, Banana Almond Butter Cup Ice Cream, & Almond Butter Cups. I am extremely impressed with this Raw Foods Book! I highly recommend it!

    Delish, so far....

*by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2010*

I got this book for Christmas, along with an Excalibur food dehydrator. So far, the recipes I've made have been delicious and my family loves them. It can be time consuming, because you need to think ahead on some recipes in order to be able to dehydrate them. But it is well worth it, and actually making some of the items ahead, cuts down on final prep time of getting food to table after work. This evening I made the Mango Wraps pictured on the front of the book, and the Potato Salad (which is really raw Jicama). I did substitute Yellow bell pepper for the Red bell pepper the recipe called for - because my son doesn't like Red bell pepper. My husband and son gobbled them down and went back for seconds. So, I like that the family is liking the fare too.The photos are beautiful and the recipes, although some do require thinking and planning ahead, are easy to follow and straight forward. All in all, I really love this one and would recommend it to anyone that is high raw, or just experimenting. YUM!You can see the photo of what I made for dinner from this book at [...] to see just how mine came out. OH, and I made the Creamy Thai Dipping Sauce also, for the Mango Veggie Wraps. Easy and yummy!

Overall, a good and comprehensive raw foods book

*by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2009*

This book has a lot of recipes that I haven't been able to find in a few others. Beware many recipes call for dehydrating (2 or more days) but luckily I have a dehydrator so that didn't deter me.I found the portions to be a bit large (most of them are 2 quarts or more) which was a bit off-putting because he DIDN'T tell you how to store the food and how long it will last once prepared. Cooking large quantities is fine when I know I can eat it for the next week, not so if it'll go bad in 3 days. I scale down many of the recipes (not very convenient). As far as taste, this book ROCKS!! The instructions are fairly easy to follow, but you do need to review and prepare your ingredients with care. Also, as one other poster mentioned, there are A LOT of recipes that call for young coconut meat. I live in New York and can't find coconuts anywhere! Obviously, for those living on the West Coast this won't be a problem. I suppose as a restaurant owner he knows exactly where to go and has no problem getting them. All in all though, this book is one of my top 5 favorites. Almost every recipe has a photo and there is great variety overall.
