Amana Tools Carbide Tip Countersunk Hole Drill Bit, Ball Bearing Master Set, AMS-620, 10 Pieces

I bought the set to give me options for countersinking holes of various sizes. The bits work very well, cutting neat, clean countersink holes with consistent depths. There was now marring of wood on top. However all the pieces came individually packaged. It would have been better to get a container designed to hold each piece in place.

I got the impression from the description and the images that I was buying a set of bits/countersinks that would all work with the non-marring stop collar rings. NOT THE CASE - you get one 'fancy' non-marring stop collar bit and one not-fancy non-marring stop collar bit (no bearings, just a teflon or similar ring), and a bunch of other bits THAT DO NOT WORK with the stop collars! I bought this so I'd have a nice set of bits that could be used with the nice stop collar I'd been craving, and instead I got the nice stop collar and a bunch of other bits that'll probably sit in my drill bit drawer. Very annoying. Absolutely not worth the $233 I paid. I'd have been happier buying just the one stop collar bit for $45 bucks if I'd realized the game being played with this collection. Even more annoying, as I'm writing this, I found someone else wrote a review complaining of the same thing I'm complaining about. Wish I'd seen it before I bought it. All that said, the one bit I've used seems nice, but I'm annoyed with all the 'fluff' that is in this collection, and that I fell for it.

If you look at the pics, it seems clear that all of the countersink bits are supposed to work with both of the stop collars but that is not at all the case. Each of the stop collars comes with one special bit that is designed to work with that stop collar and none of the other bits will work in either of the stop collars. Very disappointing, especially at the high price, since the workman on each piece seems to be excellent. You would think they could have made it actually BE a set instead of just selling it to LOOK like a set.

The other countersink bits with this "kit" are NOT compatible with the depth stop. I thought I was getting a complete kit with interchangeable bits; that is the only reason I was willing to pay this much. Unfortunately when I finally began to use the "kit", I quickly learned they are not compatible and it is long past the return date. I would have never kept this kit had I know this was the case. The other issue I had was the depth stop was very limited on adjusting the depth. Even at the shallowest setting you still get about 1/8" of the concave part. Not worth the money.

If you think that you can simply insert 55202 - 55626 into the depth stop 55227 or 55294 , it will NOT. What a total waste of money. I needed a longer drill bit so I was going to use 55626 and pull the bit out longer. Instead I had to swap the drill bit itself. Is it a huge deal, no. But the additional countersinks are useless to me without the depth stop. Ugh
