Superb
I have 3 of these, never had a problem with setup on any of them. One is paired with a couple of first gen echo plus, another with a couple of 3rd gen echo dots and the third with a couple of 3rd gen echos which I use for playing TV content on my fire stick. All are superb sounding systems which I am well satisfied with. All in all they are a great buy.

Fantastic Bass Trapped in Amazon’s Walled Garden
This thing has serious bass. Deep, punchy, shake-the-sofa bass. For films and music, it absolutely delivers and makes Echo speakers sound like they finally grew up. Now the problem — the very big one. This subwoofer only works with Amazon devices, and Amazon means Amazon only. No mixing, no “just plug it into the TV”, no friendly handshake with other systems. It’s basically powerful audio with a very strict social policy. If your setup isn’t 100% Amazon, this sub just sits there judging you. Yes, it works well for both video and audio inside the Amazon ecosystem. Outside of it? Not a chance. You don’t own it — you’re renting it from Amazon’s imagination. Two smaller gripes: setup is deeply Amazon-flavoured, and placement matters unless you enjoy your walls vibrating in protest. Overall, brilliant sound ruined by unnecessary lockdown. Amazing bass, zero freedom. If Amazon loosened the leash, this would be a star. As it stands, it’s a subwoofer with commitment issues — and Amazon wants to be your only partner.

BOOM....BOOM....BOOM....AWESOME!!!
This is an amazing subwoofer seriously powerful and looks fantastic in any room. The Echo Sub is simply beautiful in every aspect, from the packaging that it arrives in, to the design and the build quality is outstanding and it looks like an expensive piece of equipment. It was very easy to set up using the updated Alexa application and can be paired with one or more devices like the Echo/Echo Plus or the Echo Show, however for 2.1 sound you must ensure that you are paired using two or the SAME devices, for example, two Echo Plus's and the Sub or two Echo Show's and the Sub as you cannot pair it with one Echo Show and one Echo Plus at the same time, however, this is NOT a negative and makes complete sense to be able to achieve a balanced and immersive sound experience. I paired it with two Echo Plus's and then two Echo Show's and the experience was outstanding! I also paired the Echo Sub with one Echo Show and afterwards with one Echo Plus (2nd Generation) and both combinations were also very impressive. The Echo Sub is heavy and by that, I mean the weight of it and I would recommend that you place it on the floor and not on a shelf for safety reasons. I have found that even at low volume whilst playing music on either the Echo Show paired with the sub or the Echo Plus and the sub, the bass is there and added a whole new dimension to the audio experience, pushing the volume right up on both configurations resulted in a window-shaking experience that almost made me feel uncomfortable in my bedroom setup, that is not intended to sound negative as it is actually an endorsement of how powerful this subwoofer is and not because there was any distortion whatsoever, but purely because it was so powerful it was excessive and I would say that running at full volume would be perfectly acceptable in a much larger room environment or if you were having a party or even put outside for a barbecue in the summer. Amazon has created such an incredible subwoofer that for the price I cannot at this point see it being rivalled by anything else and this is a fantastic addition to the Echo range of products and if you love your music this is a "MUST HAVE"

It’s ok, but too many cons.
Let me start of by saying that this sub has a nice sturdy design, it looks slick and sounds surprisingly natural and good for the low price tag. The problem lies in the execution, I feel. It took a few attempts to get it synced up with my echo, which was frustrating. But once done, I was happy. But then the little cracks started to show. The sub would carry on playing for around 10 seconds after the echo stopped. Which was OK. But then I asked Alexa to play a song, which it said could not be played on my device as I only have music for a single device, not multiple.. which baffled me as I don’t see the sub as that kind of extension. Maybe I’m wrong. After playing every different genre I could think of over a period of around 6 hours(not through Bluetooth from my phone though as that doesn’t work with the sub) I found that there seems to be an issue with how songs are mastered for this device. One song will have an even bass frequency, sound very natural (almost like the bassist is in the room), but then the next song I have to scoop the bass out with the equaliser as it is over powering and muddy. The next song I have to push the frequency up as it’s non existent. It just doesn’t work for me as a decent sounding product. I’m sending it back, I think after an update to software it might sort its shortcomings, however I’m not waiting for that to happen. Disappointing. Edit: I have changed my rating to 1* as adding the sub to my devices has permanently ruined Amazon Music for me. Since adding the sub Alexa no longer finds any music or play lists on any device, even after factory resetting. It no longer finds music that is free also such as 80’s rock play lists which were previously just a simple ask. Absolute dog turd product.
