awesome if used correctly
I am the owner of a video production company. We have been shooting strictly in 4K for about a year now. Mostly on GH4s. I'll be the first to admit, this camera does not deliver the same pretty picture that the GH4 does. With box settings, the footage does not match well to GH4 either. But that is not why we have this camera. We have multiple GH4s for times that we need multiple angles of the same subject. We do not need to perfectly match this cam to our A cams. We use the HC1000 when we need a run&gun cam. We use it for ENG situations. Mostly sporting events. What this camera is capably of at it's price, is pretty incredible. 60p 4K, zoom, ND filters, all professional settings, solid audio, great autofocus, and the image stabilization is INCREDIBLE! There are many times we have no other choice but to shoot handheld with this cam, and with a steady operator, you will be amazed at how fluid your shots can be. We've also done a lot of testing and with our setting, we can cut from a GH4 interview shot to HCX b-roll without any jarring image differences. THE FOOTAGE IS A LITTLE NOISY. But that is something we accept with a cam at this pricepoint. As long as you keep that in mind while filming, you can minimize the noise. Also, when shooting low-lit scenes or any other scenario that might cause noise, throw the camera completely out of focus and record a few seconds, so that in post, you have a good clip to capture a good noise-print from and use a removal tool such as neat video. Do this and you might be very pleased with what you get. We've been using it for a few weeks now and I love this camera for what it is.

BAD FOR LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS
i was so exited for this camera cuase i heard a lot of good things about it and sure looks so good in pcitures and in person, video quality isn't bad but the problem here with this camera is that it has a small sensor and sucks for low light conditions,so much noise and i cant tolerate that for this camera price so i had to returned it and got refound i wish it didnt suck for shooting at night or low light PLEASE DO A RESEARCH BEFORE PURCHASING IT

Poor low light.
A very corporate video image, and poor low light performance. The DVX200 was a better fit for documentary filmmaking, but ENG and corp should have no problems.

May be the best hobbyist/starter camera available
I used this camera to record church services before upgrading to a Sony FS7, and it did a fine job. I don't personally think there's another camera in this price range with this massive feature set with dual XLR inputs, selectable phantom/mic/line levels on inputs, good zoom ability, focus peaking, dual recording, 60p UHD and even 30p DCI, and really smooth motion stabilization. In fact, I use this as a secondary HD camera still. For the cons: The low light performance is not good, so I don't recommend it for that. It's great for outdoor shots and slow mo though. I used it indoors, partially lit, and the proper exposure required a 27 db gain even though this lens has an f1.8 aperture. I recommend setting the max gain level to around 12 db, 9 db if you can, to limit noise. The lens is not parafocal, not interchangable, and the best recording format is H.264 with a decent bitrate depending on which resolution you shoot in. The FHD 24p H.264 offers the best picture with intraframe at 200Mbps. I would typically shoot at 24p 4K UHD to reframe, and that bitrate is 100Mbps, with no intraframe, so the video is definitely not as clean. It's not bad though, can be cleaned up pretty nicely with noise reducers like Red Giant's denoiser if you have 8 hours to wait for post processing.

Over all a great camera
My son and I run a couple YouTube channels. We started with a canon t5i dslr, and after considering an upgrade to 4K, we decided the cost of the Panasonic HC-x1000 was worth the risk. So we bought it. After a couple weeks of use we realized it’s not a very user friendly camera in regards to WiFi and such, (I had a bit of a problem setting it up). Another problem is it’s inability to record in low light, other then that, this camera has become our primary. We love that we don’t have to do a lot of post work on green screening. It seems to love the green screen. It’s light weight, and compact frame makes it easy to take with you, and looks professional enough. Another feature we love is the two xlr audio import jacks, which honestly I’ve only used on of, and the fact that you can record simultaneously on two SD cards. So far we love this camera as a beginners mid to semi professional quality. It’s ability to shoot 4K at this price makes it a must have for anyone looking to start out in the industry, or just a weekend videographer.
