OSTI Original Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer with Durable Plastic Handle

I got this without reading the reviews and I gotta say my experience has not been what some people are reporting here. This is a very nice wire cutter with a nice design. The threaded end piece allows you to keep a very tight wire, which makes a better cut. I don't know how so many people are breaking these, but I imagine they are trying to cut through thick rind, which this isn't great for. However, this will do just fine on harder cheeses parmesan, pecorino, etc.. I just recommend using a knife to cut or remove the rind and use this for slicing.

First off, I am Danish. I grew up with these cheese slicers. I know how to use them carefully. This snapped immediately when I tried to LIGHTLY push it into some soft cheddar. Very disappointing. I'm going to buy the replacement wires and see how that goes, but not hopeful at this point...

Absolutely the best cheese slicer ever. I received my first cheese slicer like this for a wedding gift over 36 years ago from family in Denmark 🇩🇰 after many many years I had to replace it, was so happy to have found the exact style. This is perfect for block cheeses, looks elegant at a table setting,works perfectly on hard or soft cheeses. Makes a grand wedding or anniversary gift. Definitely the perfect little gift to yourself too.

I really like the design of this slicer: being able to properly tension the wire is great, and it's a much more efficient (space saving) design than the standard slicer. I really wanted to like it. Sadly, as with others the wire broke, after about a month of daily use. I'm not sure I want to get in the habit of buying a dozen replacement wires a year. I'm thinking about buying a spool of stainless wire, and making my own replacements. If anyone is interested, the wire it comes with is 26 gauge (0.4mm), and the slots in the handle measure about 0.6mm...so 24 or 26 gauge wire should fit. I had some 28 gauge and tried that, but it's a little too thin. It boggles my mind...my parents still have a dollar-store aluminum cheese slicer that they bought probably 30 years ago, and it has a wire that has never broken.

The wire broke on this slicer the very FIRST time I used it. I had a similar one that lasted about 15 years. Don't buy this slicer.

Great product. Easy to slice hard cheeses with 2 different thicknesses. Value for money.

The cutting wire is fragile and broke in the first 5 days of use. It is a shame the cutting wire is so fragile, as the slicer works very well.

Just what I wanted as I have always used the Osti cheese slicer. My family is from Denmark and Holland and we had one at home. I saw this one on Amazon and had to have it. I like that it had the round stainless steel handle which was different than the red and white one I used to have.
