Review: Works well when mounted close to the microcontroller. Must be configured for us. - Very good analog output sound quality using an I2S serial digital input. Uses Arduino Audio.h library. These devices must be configured before use. There are four jumpers on the back, each one must be configured for your application. Some boards come pre-configured for the most standard use case. There is also a small confuguration jumper on the front of the board. For most applications (3 wire) this configuration should be shorted. You can also configure the module from edge connectors. Lessons learned: I could not get the part to work even after 2 days. The module was configured properly, but wouldn't work. All wave forms were correct. The problem is the part needs to be fairly tightly coupled to the micro controller (Teensy 4.0) with a good ground. I was using standard hobbiest jumper wires over about 6" and I couldn't get it to work. I changed the configuration, mounting the Teensy and the 5102 on the same board, with less than 2" of separaton, and it worked first time. Not sure exactly why it didn't initially worked, as the waveforms lookekd good.
Review: a creator's dream at this price - Works like a charm! Easy 5 stars for both price and usability. I use these DACs to build my own smart speaker for Home Assistant, and they've been fantastic. The only issue I ran into was a static hiss when the speaker was active, but twisting the L, R, and ground wires together while connecting the DAC to the amp solved it completely. Quick fix, no drama. Honestly, these cheap chips are a creator's dream. The only limit on what you can build is your imagination. And maybe the sound of Dad's voice saying, "That'll never work. Ambitious plan, but you need to be realistic." How wrong Dad was. So, 5 stars all day. Dirt cheap, dead simple to use, and the one minor quirk has an easy fix. If you're tinkering with Raspberry Pi or Arduino audio projects, grab a pair and start building.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good board for experimenters
*by D***G on 10 June 2026*

These modules do a decent job at converting I2C data to audio, for experimenters. But test it on a solderless breadboard. DO pay attention to the reviews that tell you to configure the hardware jumpers. This is a necessary step. You will probably not get usable output with the stock settings. The biggest drawbacks: -- The Dupont wires are poor, and don't work reliably. -- The two rows of pin junctions are completely unaligned. The board will not plug into a standard perfboard with a 2.54mm pitch. IF you want both pin rows you must make a custom board. I'd use a different module if it's a permanent project setup. For testing or experimentation they work well.
