Whichever hobby you choose - modeling, crafts, art and school projects, or do-it-yourself home projects - we offer a wide variety of materials for your projects - including woods, carbon fiber, foam and cork, plus model airplanes, model boats, jewelry kits and stepping stone kits. So build something yourself โ and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done. The Chesapeake Bay Flattie is meant for the beginner-level builder. It is a turn-of-the-century workboat, used along the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina to carry produce down shoal creeks to market and for hauling oysters from shallow flats and bars. The hull construction is die-cut side and bottom planking. Measures 10.75 x 14.25 Inch. Beam measures 3.5 Inch. Scale is 0.375 Inch to 1 foot. Review: Great project - I have just started to get back into building kits like this one. After many failed attempts at plastic ship kits, I decided I would give this a go. It was well worth it. It took me about 2 weeks to complete start to finish, I would pre assemble steps and look at the box to determine what would be exposed and needed painting, then I would paint and assemble. A trick is to use superglue, it dries fast so you can move through steps quick. Use acrylic paint and the super glue with still stick to it if you paint pieces that have to be glued together. I assembled without the sails so you can see all the rigging. Completed boat came out very nice, the painting instruction are well enough if you want to paint as it is on the box, however, I took my own approach and painted it how I wanted to. Would recommend if your looking for a good project that will bring satisfaction once completed. Review: Do you like boats? - Very detailed not for the beginner. Very nice project. My grandson had a good time putting it together. He did need a little help.

Good beginners model
I enjoyed assembling this model and thought the directions and diagrams were very easy to follow for someone who has never built a model like this. One thing to check, when you receive the model make sure it has all of the pieces. Go through the list twice. The first two times I received this it was missing crucial pieces like the deck. I am glad I checked or I would have had an unpleasant experience.

As others have said, this model comes with excellent instructions. It's a bit more complicated than I thought it would be, but that's alright. Do check to make sure all parts are in the box. I was missing one spool of rigging thread, but that's easily replaced. I really like how all parts fit together so far. I'm about half-way to completion. I need to decided how I want to treat the sails, furled or unfurled.

Rigging tip.
This was my first Midwest boat requiring rigging, and I am now on my second boat which will also need rigging. Take my advice and go purchase some uphoulstry thread for the rigging. It's maybe $2.50 a spool for 10 times what you get in the kit, it's heavier strength, and darker colors show up better. I used the supplied thread on this boat and now wish I'd bought the heavier thread for it.

Great buy for the price!
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. When it came I thought that it might be to easy for him and he would lose interest, but it turned out to be just right. He really enjoyed building it and he added his own ideas to it and it turned out beautifully. We have it displayed on a bookcase and it looks very detailed and impressive.

Model Boat
Thank you so much for the great service! Arrived before they said it would. I liked the fact that it was unmarked with what was inside of it so that it was kept a secret from the receiver. =) last christmas i ordered something and it showed up the same time my boyfriend... surprise was ruined. thanks again! we are gonna have tons of fun with this model.
