Beware of Input Lag and Lack of Instructions...
Background:I was recently motivated, after watching several YouTube videos and wanting to build my man cave, to try and build my own custom arcade machine. Unfortunately, my motivation disappeared when i realized i didnt have all the tools i needed to make a nice bar-top or standing arcade, and instead i opted to just make a nice arcade deck with joystick controls. I wanted to pair this with a Raspberry Pi while running RetroPie so that i could play some old school games like Mortal Kombat and Aero Fighters. My overall experience wasn't the greatest or easiest, and my end result was also not what i was expecting...Here's why you shouldn't buy this:-There are literally no included instructions on how to wire this. This was my biggest frustration as i had to google a video to see if someone had a similar set of buttons with the same types of wires and constantly pause the video to get a clear visual of what was going where. It sounds easy to do, but seriously wiring this was a nightmare. I had the usb tethered to a power source the whole time to see if my wiring was correct for each button.- The included wiring kit is not high quality and if you use a little bit of "strength" or tension you will likely break a clip. I had this happen to me on 2 buttons, fortunately i was able to get them to work with some glue but it was a pain none the less. - The joysticks do not respond well to RetroPie in games. Pretty much any game is unplayable with these joysticks. They feel nice and clicky, (click wayy too loud btw which is super annoying if you're just listening to others play) but they dont respond to your movements 50% of the time. For example, when playing Pacman you need to make sure that when you push left that pacman goes left, this joystick will just ignore the command altogether. I cannot tell you how mad i was after doing all th work to get the deck built, all the wiring with the lack of instructions, to find out at the end that my joysticks had so much input lag and were unresponsive to the point that i cant even use them properly. Now you must be thinking, how are you sure its the joystick and not the game or Raspberry Pi? Well simple, i isolated the issue because i wanted to believe the joysticks were fine. I used a normal keyboard, a xbox gamepad, and basically any other input device with the Pi and had no lag issues at all. I also connected the joysticks to my PC, again same lag issue was there with games run on PC.The only reason i am giving it 3 star is literally because of its price and that it looks nice. You can somewhat play with these, if you're ok with lag, otherwise they are pretty much useless. If i had to build another deck, i would absolutely avoid this set of buttons. I hope this lengthy review helps...
