Complete Danish Beginner to Intermediate Course: Learn to read, write, speak and understand a new language (Teach Yourself Language) [Elsworth, Bente] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Complete Danish Beginner to Intermediate Course: Learn to read, write, speak and understand a new language (Teach Yourself Language) Review: This is an amazing book - I got this book because i am learning danish, since my bf is from denmark. this book its excellent, i just have several days with it and with time and dedication, plus de audios that are online. I already learn how to introduce myself and ask other people they name. The method that this book use basically it is explain you things in the easiest way possible, makes you listen lot of conversations that at least in unit one are related with each other, so its easier to you to just at the end of the day figure out things, for can complete the practices that each one have and also the indivual practice that the book have, after i complete every 2-3 page, i recap every single lesson that i hear, read and complete. check the activitys and then goes to the very back of the book where they have the answer of each activitys where you can check if what already its done its correct. This book have everything you need, give you vocabulary builder in every single page and also at the back of the book have lot of vocabulary to you to study. I really love the smothly way i am learning. My best advice to you to can use this book its that dont stop in the very first page like me, where have the abc, dipthongs, etc. because if you stuck there you would not be able to move foward, just study a little bit and keep going thats the best method. when you goes to the actual units if you need time to every single one just take your time and study what you need, add some color, add some notes, mark everything you think it is important to you to notice and can goes back. Also i think that it is really important to you to not just stuck with the book, check some tv: on Disney+ you would found some tv shows and cartoons that you can whatch in danish like the adventure of the emperor Kuzco. I really love it and some words that they says i already know them because of the book and also because of duolingo. On Starplus you would found that you dont have audio in danish but would be able to have suptitle to everything you are watching. With netflix you would not have that oportunity unless you found a tv show that its actually danish, you can check up with RITA: I really love this tv show, its completely the oposite that im used to and its really refreshing. A teacher that its there to give up everything and do whatever for her students. With this says you just would need 1-2hr of study depends the time that you have to invest on this. All this things together would help you build the confidence of learn this language that for me at the end of the day, start sound so pretty, which you the best of the luck with this. PST: Also another advice when you are watching tv and working with the audio of the book, try to repeat everything, like a little parrot. that would help you to build the confidence to speak. Review: EXCELLENT BOOK TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE - So far this has been an excellent book. Combined with the audio portion for the proper pronunciation this has been the best way I have found to learn a new language.

Just what I was looking for!
DISCLAMER! The audio IS a part of the purchase, you have to follow the instructions on the back / end of the book, the sound files are digital. I have been looking for a book for my wife to use, as she is learning Danish. The book is very precise, with well constructed excersises and finally a book where you have Danes speaking and pronouncing the words and sentences correctly (speaking as a Dane myself). I can highly recommend it as a beginner / intermediate book, great to kick start cobversations and boost your Danish knowledge and understanding.

Great with some hiccups.
I liked that everything is very organized and they add some culture and history (about the vocab) to each unit. It is a perfect blend of reading, writing, and listening (the audio is digital on an app for those who keep saying there isn’t audio). It can be for absolute beginners or those who already have some knowledge in the language. The downsides are that there sometimes isn’t enough space to write your answers. I don’t know if this was intended to have a notebook with it (which I do have so I can copy sentences down), but as someone who has studied at least three different languages a textbook should have space to make complete answers. Sometimes I didn’t even bother writing anything down because it was so small. Another downside is that they just throw in words that they never translated earlier, and later whole sentences. I know some professors and teachers think this is a good way for students to learn but again, I have studied at least three languages and I don’t think that’s a good method. I would have to dig in the back or use Google to translate sentences and words (the latter I don’t typically like because it’s not always accurate) because I couldn’t understand them. My last negative thing about the book was that the tense endings lesson came so late. I understand they are using a different method of teaching a language but tenses for me in all my other languages came within the first five or six units/chapters, and definitely not well after unit/chapter ten. Why I bought this particular book? It is a part of series of Danish language textbooks that also have a partner series to reinforce what you learn AND it IS the best textbook I have found on the Danish language. Danish language textbooks are difficult to come by in quantity AND quality. You sometimes have to take what you can get even if there are a few frustrating negatives, yet not as many as others. A good way to combat the negatives is to buy short story or fairytale books in Danish (and you can find some that have a side by side English translation). You can also buy the go-along reinforcing exercise books, Danish Tutor. And on top of it all you can use DuoLingo. It’s not the greatest app for speaking correctly (I have a Danish boyfriend who laughs at me, so I do know…) but it helps with vocabulary and reinforcing what you learn.

NOT 400 pages — false advertising
This book is only 296 pages, with the learning units and exercises ending on page 239. I purchased this because the 400 pages seemed like the best bang-for-my-buck considering the price of this textbook compared to others. Hopefully they update the listing, that way others can buy confidently, knowing that their purchase will be as described.

Es un excelente método para aprender este bello idioma, aunque es mejor si ya tienes bases de él mismo o de un idioma similar como alemán, noruego o sueco; ademas como todo esta en ingles si es un poco trabajoso adoptar la gramática danesa desde una perspectiva anglosajona.

I have never cared enough about something on amazon to write a review. Maybe a few years ago. If you're serious about learning danish as I am, and like me you actually missed a flight trying to read a danish newspaper and lost track of time at the airport, you need this book. This book is something else. It's almost cheating. Edit 1: I'm done the first four chapters and I must say, I can count to 100, I know know how to tell the time in the most complex ways, I can talk about buying food, tickets, flowers, red wine, pretty much things you do on a date. I can say that I called someone and talked to them, I can ask what something costs, I can pretty much read danish text messages and comments on youtube and reddit. And right now in chapter five I'm about to learn how to say something is a good idea, ask someone what they want to do today. I'll do another update once I reach chapter 8. Not a single negative thing to say about it so far, this is the closest thing to sling shooting yourself from beginner to advance. A note, you need to know basics words like han, til, for, at, jeg, har, i, godt, du, skal, os, en, er before reading this book. If you don't memorize the meanings before chapter one you will burn a lot of time trying to figure out what something means instead of memorizing new vocabulary. I suggest duolingo and pass it's first test before trying this book, so that you are comfortable with the bread and butter words. If you can pick them up some other way great. This is not to say if you straight jump into this book you can't pick them up, but it feels good when you know something before they introduce it too you with other unknown stuff. Kept me motivated and I didn't burn out.

I took me about 1 week to be able to write simple sentences in Danish and have a chat with a Danish colleague and my ex-Norwegien boss - both in Danish. This book and the accompanying audio, which can be downloaded from Teach Yourself app, provide you the easy start to learning and mastering Danish. What I like about this book from Bente is she also explains the cultural aspects of the language. After all, we are not learning language for the sake of the language but to appreciate another culture throught its beautiful words. I highly recommend Complete Danish and looking forward to start Complete Dutch and other European languages with this Teach Yourself Complete series. Btw, I having been speaking German (Deutsch) for 7 years now, and only considered myself fluent in the last 2.5 years.
