New Testament in Modern English

I ordered a used copy and I'm very happy with it. I read this version many, many years ago and I didn't remember it didn't have verse numbers. However, I very much like it that in this version the chapters read like a letter. There are certain chapters I've read in several versions, but this style, without the verse numbers, helped me get an understanding of Paul's complete thought better than anything else I've read. Each version has it's advantages!

Of the many contemporary translations, this is my favorite. If you have ever gotten tangled up in Romans or Hebrews, this translation will help you sort them out.

Phillips translation puts an exciting story-like spin on the New Testament. It reads so much more personably than academically, like some translations.

It’s old and yellowed, but is useable shape.

I have always LOVED JB Phillips translation, I needed to order another because mine was literally falling apart I've used it so much as another translation reference. I only wish it was in the OT as well. Years back when I was reading the book of Romans, chapter 8, verse 13 was really imprinted on my mind, where Paul is admonishing our walking the Christian life in the Spirit or "living life on the level of instincts," i.e., in the flesh. JB Phillips states, "...if, on the other hand, you cut the nerve of your instinctive actions by obeying the Spirit, you will live." What a profound, yet clear cut command for any child of God!
