Printing Practice Handwriting Workbook for Boys [Harper, Julie] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Printing Practice Handwriting Workbook for Boys Review: Really cute and good practice - Great book for practicing handwriting! Review: Gets Right to the Point - GREAT, Fun Practice! - This book was exactly what I was looking for for my 7 year old son (2nd grade). It is very straightforward and doesn't waste time with teaching the alphabet. We homeschool and he wanted to start cursive this year, so I thought we should practice his printing the first 3/4 of the year and then move on to cursive towards the end. My son is an excellent reader, so writing these words was not difficult for him - he knew how to read them so it was really fun to see all the different "boy-type" words. He was very excited to get the the sentences! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the proportions of some of their letters because of the font they use. The lower case "t", for example, is shorter than the other high-back letters like "h" - causing my son to write a lower case "t" smaller than he should be. I explained it to him, so he writes it correctly despite what he sees on the page. Other than that, I'm very happy with this book!

Overall good but some problematic language
Overall my son likes this book and he generally doesn’t like to practice handwriting. There are some sentences that mention no girls allowed, boys only type but I just skip those pages or cut off that sentence. It has topics like bugs, rock climbing, baseball and other nature and sport inspired topics that my son is interested in so he’s happy to do his handwriting practice.

Focus on handwriting--it works!
If you can get past the "no girls allowed" phrase in the book, this was a great practice book. We used it to replace OT for the summer. My son's OT sessions were only 45 minutes a week with about 15 minutes of that focused on handwriting, which he hated. But given the option to practice handwriting on his own rather than have weekly OT sessions on Zoom, he chose to complete this book. He completed 3 pages per day for the tracing/copying sections, and 2 pages per day for the writing prompts. The improvements I see in his letter formation and spacing is just astounding, and it's all because of the repetition. The subject matter of the pages (boy stuff) likely kept him interested in keeping up his daily routine with this book, and I'm so glad we used it this summer!

Excellent for practice
This book starts with single word practice and gradually works up to phrases and sentences. This handwriting practice book is perfect for homeschooling and perfect for boys! Worth the money.

A writin and readin ;)
Our 6 year old son loves to color but wasn't too keen on writing. He is a beginning reader also, so I was stressed trying to sort out what handwriting curriculum would work best for him. This is terrific! He has actually begun to be excited about handwriting now. And he even enjoys reading through each page (though I do have to help him with bigger words on occasion).

Good, with one serious flaw.
Bought this for my son to use in the summer between 1st & 2nd grade to work on his sloppy handwriting. He earns 10 min of Minecraft per page (front & back) completed. I like the progression of the book from tracing to copying. It has helped to improve his letter construction and spacing. Loses 2 stars for having "no girls allowed". I knew from previous reviews that this was an issue so I slipped through and tore out the page with that sentiment on it before giving it to my son, but then he ran across another page with "no girls allowed" again (and I'm now hoping we don't find more). My 7 year old rightly pointed out that it was a horrible thing to say. I had him toss out that page (too) and we talked about how we don't treat friends differently or exclude them because of gender. I wouldn't say that's enough to not buy this - otherwise it's a great workbook - but it's a shame the author didn't use better judgement and exclude that unnecessary meanness.

Perfect for practicing printing.

My very reluctant writer was excited by the word and phrases like “boys only” and “code name”. He was even inspired to write more details like his secret password.

My daughter and I both loved it for my grandson. He was excited and practiced printing on first possible page straight away. Fun to see!
