The case is ventilated and well cooled. If it ever fails I should be able to get inside and replace some components which is something you can't do with smaller units encased in epoxy. I like the USB power port too. The European plug is 220 volts while the American style plug is still 110 volts. This way I can power my British DVD player (220 volts) while powering my American "HDMI to S-video converter" (110 volts) at the same time. I use the USB port to power my Memorex Dual charger for the Wii. If you enjoy British comedies, desertcart.com.uk has DVD's of complete seasons of them and a much better selection than desertcart in America. The only problem is you need a Region 2 player to play them. I tried a Region free player but it failed after a year and the region free players do not come with a warranty. I figured the best bet was to get a warrantied region 2 player for my British disks (from desertcart.com.uk) and play my region 1 disks (American) through my home entertainment computer. So far this set-up has worked out quite well. 6/7/2013 Update: The USB port stopped providing power a few weeks ago. It's not a deal breaker but I do miss the port because it powered a Wii remote charging station. Power supplies should not break down like this because they are not at all complicated devices. If the components are halfway decent then the unit should last for many years. 10/22/14 Update #2 It died. I never used it that much either. It has probably less than 10 hours of total use on it. I'm getting a 1000 watt Rockstone unit. It's heavier duty and better reviews. Review: Mostly works as expected - I purchased this Voltage Transformer, to allow us to run three New Zealand appliances (240v) here in the US (110v). For two of the three appliances, this device works perfectly (a sewing machine and electronic keyboard). The third item, GHD hair straighteners kept blowing the fuses. The straighteners are rated 30w, and the transformer is rated 100w, so I was quite disappointed by that. Talking to some more electrically inclined people at work, they suggested the hair straighteners might be self regulating to an average 30w, thus drawing higher current to begin with. I have followed the 4-step instructions to the letter and everytime I flip the switch to the "on" position it pops a fuse. I'm seriously considering returning it unless you can tell me what's wrong. We are on the island of Okinawa, Japan in an American style house with 110 power...what gives? Frustrated on Okinawa PS...I bought two transformers, the STU-100 and STU-300. Both react the same way and the only thing I'm plugging into them to convert is a small musical keyboard and a printer, both purchased in Turkey, both are 220V.
