Does the tablet work with Linux?

Yes it does :). It works perfectly for me in Krita and Blender.
You may need to run this every time you plug it in. I need to run this on Manjaro, but not on ubuntu.
sudo modprobe wacom

I have a script I run every time I plug my tablet in. Here's what's in it.

# Flip it 180 degrees so we can use it upside down.
xsetwacom --set "Wacom One by Wacom M Pen stylus" Rotate half

# The default mode is for the cursor to jump to the location where the pen is on the tablet.
# I sometimes prefer relative mode, because it's more natural and I can just move the cursor bit by bit.

# Other artists use absolute mode, so I guess I will too.
# Plus I can map it to a monitor and that way I won't ever lose my cursor.

Is this compatible with Linux?

Hi, thanks for reaching out. 
Wacom does not offer a Linux driver directly, but there is a Linux driver available for most Wacom devices at the Linux Wacom Project on Github. 
Many Linux distributions come with the driver pre-installed, so first try attaching your device to your Linux machine to see if it works. If it doesn’t, visit the Github repository to download drivers and get more information.

Will i be able to use this to mark work my students email me. they use photos, pdf's, wordpad and word. can i use it for all these programmes?

Accepted Answer

First thing to note is that to make the tablet work you will need to install its drivers. If your computer is supplied by your school/college you may need to check with your IT people that you can install them before you buy the tablet. If you are using Windows 10 then the tablet fully supports the inking features built into this version of Windows. This will enable you to directly use the pen on their work supplied as photos and the latest word files (.docx). You will need to open the files in a specific program like Word or Paint, it won't work directly in your email client. Wordpad files can be converted to the latest type of word file and can then be written on, although I would export the marked version to an image or pdf for return to the student because I am not sure Wordpad would open files marked in this way. As for pdf I am not aware of a version of a pdf editor that supports inking, however you could save the pdfs as an image file and then mark in the same way as a photo.
If you are using a Mac or Linux based PC then I have no experience of those operating systems so my comments probvbably won't apply, sorry.

Does this include the software like other Wacom drawing tablets?

The One by Wacom offers free trial offers for Collaboard, Explain Everything, Kami, Limnu and Pear Deck (educational/collaborative apps and websites). If you have a Chromebook, you are also offered a free trial of Clip Studio Paint PRO which is a digital art software. 
The Clip Studio offer is only valid for ChromeOS.
