Philips DVT8000 Voice Tracer Meeting Recorder Voice Recorder

I bought it to replace an older Philips Voice Tracer that broke. In the one product generation between the last one I bought and this one Philips immensely improved their product. The three mics are even more sensitive than before, the housing is a much more solid brushed metal, it's lighter, more streamlined, and the display is now in color.The documentation is still a little too sparse for me, for example I have no idea what "Sensitivity Level 5" is or exactly *how* the "Autozoom Sensitivity" works.The batteries are integrated and cannot be removed so it must be charged, the previous Voice Tracers came with removable AAA rechargeable cells. So if you ran out and were in the field you could always throw in a couple of new batteries. That said the batteries on this thing last longer than 24 hours, as I found out by mistake accidentally leaving the thing on record for the better part of a day and a half. The product documentation says 50 hours. I haven't actually tested this but it wouldn't surprise me on a full charge.My few quibbles are minor ones. I'm totally sold on Philips now and can't imagine ever buying a micro-recorder or pocket Dictaphone from another manufacturer. This piece of equipment is very impressive, the recorder seems durable, it records very well - even through clothing - and is a marked improvement on their already impressive older Voice Tracers.

I purchased this unit to record meetings in an average sized conference room. The Phillips name and features appealed to me. The additional microphones offered better coverage and the ability to accurately capture comments from all meeting attendees. The unit worked well for a couple of months, then recorded files started to go missing. I thought that it might have been user error, but never had the chance to adequately troubleshoot, because the unit stopped working entirely. Made the mistake of buying another assuming a quirky one of a kind problem with the first unit. This unit also failed in the exact same manner. Phillips tech support required an emailed copy of the proof of purchase before they would take any action, but that action turned out to be nothing. No further responses, no RMA... nothing. So I have two great looking paperweights. Will never recommend or buy another voice tracer product and will think hard before I spend money with Phillips again.

I got this recorder to record our bi-monthly council meetings with. Before, with the recorder we used prior, we were having trouble picking up all the voices, and also the playback was quite jumbled. Which I thought no matter what recorder we used it would be the same, when you have 6 or 7 people over talking on another. This recorder actually picks up sound very clearly. I can hear distinctively who is speaking. So now their are not reasons not to get it right when someone says something. We use only about a 10 foot radius, with the actual recorder being at one end of the table, and the microphone setting quite close to the middle of the table, and every single persons voice in the same room, picks up just like the one sitting right beside the microphone. I am very pleased with this product. A little on the expensive side for a voice recorder, but worth every penny. Also, I didn't see on here when I originally made the purchase how this battery on here worked. It is a rechargeable usb battery, which I quite liked.

really great for recording meeting. The circular Microphone does a great job picking the sound all around its location. Very clear.

The DVT8000 looks good but feels fragile. It can record in a useful variety of formats, from WAV at 1.6Mbps to MP3 at 8kbps. Facilities for filtering out wind noise and adjusting microphone sensitivity are useful, but best of all is the microphone for recording meetings. After a year of occasional use (totaling about 10 hours), my device refused to turn on unless it was connected to a charger (USB source). The battery would then go flat after several minutes of recording, indicating a battery failure. But the battery is built-in and not consumer replaceable. The local Philips agent stated that such an insignificant consumer product was "not a repairable item". The Amazon warranty has expired, and now the device is virtually junk. Almost $200 down the drain. Never again will I buy Philips!

Worked great for a few uses, then it showed no signs of life whatsoever. Philips replaced the original with a new one because I was still within the warranty period. The new one is only a few days old, so I don't know whether it will work better.Update March 2019: I've had this new one (warranty replacement) for 3 years, and it works great! The battery lasts a very long time (I have recently recorded more than 15 hour-long interviews, and the battery shows 75% available). Recordings are very, very clear.

Works okay just not from a far distance. I even used the extra microphone. Barely able to hear it with volume all the way up. For the price, the product is junk.

This little device is powerful and the 360 microphone is very nice. Running some tests prior to a meeting, it picked up 5 voices in the enclosed room all speaking at the same time. The playback is great and seems to be clear as well. Transferring over to the laptop is simple and operation of the device is simple as well. Had to delete the installed songs and announcement that came with the recorder, but all in all a great tool.

This meeting recorder handled a meeting of capacity 8 double desks easily. everyones voice was recorded crystal clear. playback on the device is linited as it has only a small speaker and simple controls. once plugged into a computer the file can be played in media player and the quality is astounding and it can be easily searched.It is so simple to use - (my instructions would be turn it on and press the red record button, press the stop button when done and turn it off )and the menu is available for those that want to do the clever stuff
