Repress. Digitally remastered edition of this classic album from the early '70s. Stud were formed in 1970 by Richard McCracken and John Wilson (formerly from Taste with Rory Gallagher) and Jim Cregan (formerly of Blossom Toes). The album they recorded for Decca's Deram label was an amalgam of Rock and Jazz and was an outstanding Progressive album of it's time. The sessions also featured guest appearances by Poli Palmer (Family) and John Weider (The Animals). Although Stud never achieved the acclaim they deserved, their debut album remains highly sought after by aficionados of Progressive Rock. Esoteric.

The most honest review I can write.
Disclaimer up front: I am reviewing my own album. I was the bass player on this album (and wrote and sang The War Song). I am not going to tell you this is the greatest album in the world. It's not. It is a re-issue of an album our band made over forty years ago. I think it's good music (It's now considered heavy psyche rock), but I'm very prejudiced. You will have to make up your own mind about whether the music suits your tastes. What I can tell you is this - Guerssen Records, the company that re-issued our album, did an amazing job of cleaning up the sound on the original album. The master sound files they produced sound better than the original master tapes. As someone who has worked in recording studios and did live sound for thirty years, I assure you that the quality of the product is excellent! They are including a booklet with the CD and vinyl album that has every picture I could ever find of the band, and all the info Tim, George and I could remember about the recording process. (I knew they wanted info and pics on the band so I sent them everything I had, not thinking they would put EVERYTHING in the full color pullout!) So yes, I'm giving this five stars, because, yes I like the music, but mostly because the record company did such a fantastic job on the product. I hope you enjoy it!

LEAVES A NICE TASTE
Ritchie McCracken and John Wilson quickly regrouped after TASTE split and Rory Gallagher tread the 'solo' path. Jim Cregan teamed up with the guys and they were eventually joined by part-time member John Weider. The result of this mix is an eclectic and highly enjoyable debut album which skirts around Prog, Jazz Fusion and Pop/Rock. 1112235 is a track which borders on Avant-Guarde and is the longest track on the album. It takes the listener aback at first but showcases some great individual playing and was apparently the result of a jam session. If that is so then it leaves other jam sessions by more illustrious artists in the shade.'Turn Over the Pages' is simply a beautiful song along with the opening track 'Sail On'. Another longish track is 'Harpo's Head' and compliments 1112235.Worthwhile and historic, especially for fans of TASTE who may have pondered whatever happened to McCracken and Wilson.

long forgotten masterpiece from the legendary deram label, any lover of classic progressive rock with a taste for skilled playing and balanced arrangements (the trademark of the deram-decca label) shouldn't miss this.
