Highly recommend over hearing aids!
Radio Shack makes a cheaper version and Pocket Talker makes a slicker looking more expensive version. All 3 work better than $2000 hearing aids for my nearly deaf 90 year old father, but the Bionicear has the best background noise cancellation. It has fallen a hundred times and the batteries last a very long time.

Okay but nothing great
It works great for conversations but if your using them to watch TV they're not that good. Also noticed a slight static noise buildup after 2 weeks of normal use.I bought them for a 89 year old lady to use to communicate among her friends.

Great for a senior citizen
I got this in 2012 for a 90 year old friend who had trouble handling other tiny hearing aids and lost many of them. This unit was too large to lose and he found it easy to use having just one not-to-small volume control wheel. He claims it works very well for him especially in a small group meeting where he can keep his thumb on the wheel to adjust the volume for low or loud voices quickly. It has a pen like clip to hang it on a shirt pocket that is handy. It takes 2 triple A batteries that seem to last a long time. The only reason for not rating at 5 stars is for a little fuzz noise and static when adjusting it, but it doesn't bother my hard of hearing friend at all; and because one of the ear buds stopped working, but they are cheap to replace. A very good value

Good for what it's good for
I bought this bionic ear to hear words too quiet for me to hear in conversation in a quiet room. For that purpose, it worked mostly. In some quiet rooms there was still a lot of popping and interference, perhaps because we were in a housing area where a lot of remote control devices were around. Later, in a more secluded area, I had no trouble with interference. In a normal house where there is ambient noise, the ambient noise will override the voice. For instance, I have a ticking clock in my living room. The only thing audible is the ticking clock. If you are in a controlled and quiet environment, wanting to hear specific voices where there is no ambient noise, this will work for you.

Interesting info on the ear buds
My mom has severe hearing loss and has been to Doctor a few times with no luck. They can amplify the sound but she can't distinguish words. She says it sounds like the speaker is in a tunnel far away. She has great insurance but no hearing aid will help.I buy the Bionic Ear and she can hear great while in a quiet room with no back ground noise. Nice to have a normal conversation without yelling into her ear. The volume is up and it feeds back if the ear buds are close to unit but it works great. She can even hear in a restaurant to place order but turns off afterwards to stop back ground noise. Then a wire to the little hard ear buds breaks. I get her nice headphones but it makes it sounds like she is in a tunnel and she can't distinguish words. I get soft ear buds with interchangeable little soft form fitting cones. They are just like the headphones, tunnel effect. The only thing I can think of is that the non-cushioned ear buds that come with it transmit some vibration directly to ear canal which helps her distinguish the sounds. So the little cheap hard ear buds work were the soft expensive ones don't.I just ordered another G2 to get the ear buds and am going to try finding some hard ear buds at local stores. The ear buds that come with it just have a thin soft foam cover, old style. The new ones have a soft silicone cone that acts sort of like a conforming plug with a hole in center.
