Reading Wonders Literature Anthology Grade 3 (ELEMENTARY CORE READING) Review: Anthology as Part of a Broader Curriculum - This is an excellent resource. I use it for homeschooling my twins, and I am a former teacher, so I am pretty particular about my curriculums. If you are looking for a robust ELA curriculum, this is a great choice. There are a lot of different wonders curriculum books and companions that work together, but if you need just one to start with, the reading, writing companion would be my first choice. Many of the passages here appear in the reading writing workshop textbook, but there are several other passages in the reading writing workshop textbook that do not appear in the companion. The companion is very thorough and provides a lot of different structured activities to truly dig in and work with the text. Ultimately the difference is the reading writing workshop textbook has more passages and some exercises, but the reading writing companion provides more practice with fewer passages. And the anthology provides a completely different set of reading passages that are not contained in either of the other two books, but are referenced in the reading, writing companion workbook. The second book I would recommend to add the reading writing companion would be this book, the literature anthology, as there is no overlap with the reading writing companion or the reading/writing workshop text book. However, to fully be able to use the workbook, many of the reading, writing companion, exercises and lessons are based on stories that can be found here in the literature anthology. If you are considering this curriculum for homeschooling, I would start with the reading, writing companions (workbooks). See if you like the curriculum and then expand to the literature anthology and then add the reading writing workshop textbook as a third item. There may be other curriculum supplemental materials as well, but these are the three we are working with. As a final note, the passages are excellent and really get the kids thinking and learning about a variety of different subjects from history to science. Excellent resource! Review: Outstanding purchase - This was my sons 2nd grade readibg textbook. So I purchased this for the use over the summer to work on reading comprehension. I think this will be an option for me each year because it worked great.
