Well made and quick to to mount and release
I own several Manfrotto and Gitzo heads and wanted to use the same QR plates on all my gear. So I was delighted when I read Manfrotto's claim that the 323 RC2 allows you to "add a quick release system to any tripod." So I ordered a 323 RC2 from Amazon and eagerly awaited its appearance on my doorstep. The best mounting solution--if possible with your head--is to remove the head's disk/platform and mount the 332 RC2 directly on the ball stem. The underside of the 323 RC2 is flat, so ball stems with a single key or boss will be too wobbly. Double boss stems should be pretty solid. I installed the 332 RC2 on a Gitzo G1177M Magnesium 1 Series Ball Head with a simple flat topped stem, so it has 100% contact with the bottom of the 323 RC2. The disk on top of the head (where you mount the camera) is easily removed (a single nut) and the 332 RC2 can be screwed onto the 3/8 inch stud sticking out of the ball stem. I finished the job with a wee dab of Loctite Blue 242 on the stud to lock the threads. The result was a beautiful Italian-French hybrid, i.e., a Gitfrotto head. It looks handsome--like original equipment--and works like a dream. My old friend, G1177M, is now much more convenient to use. The 332 RC2 is well constructed with excellent fit and finish. It's also fast to use: press in the plate and the spring loaded lock snaps shut. However the small 200PL-14 plates used in the 323 RC2 are best suited for light to medium sized load, e.g., your typical DSLR and telezoom. The new neoprene backed 200PL-14 plates are more grippy and less prone to twist than the old cork backed plates from the 1990s. For example my EOS 5D MKII and EF 70-200 4L IS USM were rock steady and didn't twist when flipped for portrait orientation. Check the customer images above for my picture of the 332 RC2 mounted directly on the ball stem of the Gitzo G1177M.

Real Game Changer !
If only I had known sooner. This quick release is so fast when switching a camera from any tripod, mono-pod or stabilizer. I have two cameras when I go on a shoot and depending on how much time I have, will determine which shoots I will be able to take. Going from DJI Ronin to a Tropd and back can be time consuming especially to level the DJI Ronin once again. Those of you who have a DJI Ronin knows if you do not level it properly it will disengage. Then you will have spend time finding that sweet spot again even when you have it marked. With these clips now it only takes 7-9 seconds to go back and forth. Ever part is made of metal no plastic. Very well made. The clips on the front snap each time which make me feel better knowing it was snapped in. If you are going to use the Manfrotto Tripods you will need to get the 394 quick release by Manfrotto. The 323 does not sit flat and can not attach properly on a 502AH Video Head, you will have to get the Manfrotto 394 Low Profile Quick Release Adapter with 410PL Plate. I just doubled the 394 on the Video Release plate with the 323 on top. This way I can still jump from my Manfrotto Tripod to my VariZoom shoulder rig to a Monopod in less than10 seconds. It takes me longer to take off the VariZoom shoulder rig, than it does to pull my camera off the VariZoom onto my Manfrotto tripod. For me its a real game changer.

Used these for years with no issue
I’ve used these quick release plates for years out in the field shooting nature/landscape and sports and they’ve held up great to the elements and abuse. Nice and compact design and the stability they provide for my larger and/or heavier lenses like the 70-200 f/2.8L II and 300 f/4L is rock solid. Never had any play issues and always locks in tight. Super quick and easy to swap equipment around and mount with ease. Definitely a game changer if you use different equipment often.

Solid and quick
Does what it does. Quick on and quick off. Locks solidly. Has a little switch that prevents it releasing if you catch the big lever on something.

One Big Con, Many Big Pros.
TLDR; Worth the money. Works fast and super secure, but has a notch that sticks out on the bottom, so it is incompatible with wider/larger flat plates. Pros: SUPER SECURE. Super snug when locked in EASY USE. One or Two flicks of the thumb and a satisfying snap in when using it. FULL METAL. High build quality. FAST. Extremely easy to use. PEAK DESIGN COMPATIBLE. If you buy Peak Design's Dual plate, you can use it in the rc2 latching mechanism. Cons: Notch on the bottom. Compatibility with certain tripod heads is non existent because of the notch that sticks out. You won't know if its possible to mount on yours until you try it. Paint: Maybe I'm just rough with my gear, but I've scratched off some lines of paint on the thumb switch already. but I don't need it to look pretty. Chunky. It blocks the bubble level on my tripod which is both inconvenient and not a huge con at the same time. Its super annoying sometimes, but usually I have the level on in camera anyways.

Great addition to run & gun workflow
I do a lot of freelance video work, and use DLSR's for that. I use these Manfrotto adapters on all my DSLR bodies for fast connect and release operation. I use these even on top of other sliding release plates on various tripod heads or cages, etc. Easy, simple, reliable, and great for smaller cameras (read: DSLRs; prob wouldn't use it on anything heavier) and smaller long lenses like the 70-200mm and the like. EDIT: Please note that this quick release system does not always "fit" - as it has a small protrusion on the bottom (part of the locking mechanism). For instance, if you use the 200pl-14 plate on your camera body, but connect the 323 RC2 adapter to another larger plate that fits into a head, like the 500 series monopod with 500plong plate ( Manfrotto 500PLONG Video Camera Plate (Black) ), it may not be compatible until you use a different plate with monopod. The 323 RC2 DOES NOT work on a 500plong plate, but DOES work with a shorter 501pl plate ( Manfrotto 501PL Rapid Connect Sliding Plate with 1/4'' and 3/8'' Camera Fixing Screws ).

Manfrotto camera tripod quck release mounting plate
This is a well engineered piece of equipment. It allows for quick removal of the camera from the base unit mate to shoot hand held without tripod/monopod, and features a spring loaded cam lock to snap the camera back in position on the tripod/monopod when you are finished. It has a little safety lever lock to prevent accidents. You want to take advantage of safety lock because it protects your equipment from premature removal(falling off, and plummeting to the ground). The plate that attaches to the camera has a protective rubber coating that prevents marring and slippage once the plate is fully secured to the camera via the threaded screw supplied. The threaded screw is secured to the plate by an "E-clip" retaining ring. The screw can work it's way out of the clearance hole on the plate so be aware of that when it's not in use and being jostled in the camera bag. I'm not sure, but I think you can purchase extra parts of the plate that mounts to the camera for extra cameras without having to spring for the whole package and not use it all.(one tripod - three cameras)The material appears to be of some type of cast metal, not plastic and the painted finish appears to be adequate to protect the material from the elements. It's too early for me to comment on the wear factor, but even though the price seems to have jumped up since I made my purchase, it is reasonably priced. This is well engineered and constructed, it's not a cheap piece of equipment found in bargain bins at your local flea market. I use it with a canon 7d and it feels totally secure. One last note, I couldn't find anything this nice at any of the major dept stores. Manfrotto 323 RC2 Rapid Connect Adapter with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate - Replaces 3299 (Black)

Lovely, just works
My father had picked up a tripod at a yardsale. It was very high quality despite its age and included a ball joint, but I found it annoying to unscrew cameras from it. Specifically, I had been using a Polaroid packfilm camera. This requires grasping the camera and carefully ripping out the film sideways to initiate development. Bought the Manfrotto adapter and was very impressed at the build quality. Now I am using a Polaroid OneStep + and frequently setting up the camera for manual exposure, then popping it off the tripod to bring it inside to keep the film warm. Just ordered an additional top plate for my Sametop tripod adapter. That one is a flat plastic shoe which matches the sliding quick-release of a GoPro. Because of the dubious quality of the Sametop accessory, I will most likely be reinforcing its connection to the Manfrotto by pouring liquid epoxy or adhesive through the three ancillary holes of the Manfrotto top plate (flipped upside down an let to sit 24 hrs., of course).
