Review: Nice quality steel containers - I started cooking and baking over the last year or two, and everything I do in the kitchen takes me a million times longer than it should. When I read a recipe and it says 'prep time: 20 minutes' I know I will be in the kitchen for an hour. I'm not sure what my problem is, but I am trying to get faster, and I decided a little organizing might help. So I set out to find a metal or glass canister set that was sleek enough to be left out on the counter, opaque on the sides so light doesn't damage contents, and at a price point where I feel like I'm paying for a good, quality set without being ripped off by anyone. I have six of these Calphalon containers (two separate sets), and I'm impressed with them. I did have an issue with one of the lids having a crack in the metal handle. So I emailed Calphalon. I have never in my life seen better customer service. They wrote me right back, and bam, I had replacements at my door. As to how these containers fit my set of wants: They are stainless steel bases, glass lids and silicone gaskets. The bottoms are opaque but the lids are not, and that is fine because little light can get to my food and I like being able to see how much is in them without opening them. And even though I haven't purchased any other containers, I think that this price point is about right where I want to be. I considered a similar set for almost twice as much and I just couldn't see anything about them that justified the jump in price. The lids are tight. In fact, I have a little game of dare I like to play. Because I don't like to leave fingerprints on the nice shiny canisters, I'll pick them up by the lids instead of the sides, and see if I can carry them to my working space without the bottoms falling off. I haven't lost yet, and when I do need to pop the lids off, I wrap my fingers around the rim and pull. If you have arthritis or other issues with grip, do yourself a favor and make sure you can easily return any canisters that you order just in case it is too difficult for you to open them. Or possibly go with one of the plastic containers that have a pressure release button. These ones require some force to open. But that makes me hopeful that they are truly sealed and air tight.
Review: Great Set but.... - This is a great set but I agree with a previous reviewer. The large canister does not hold a full bag of flour, at least not a 5 lb. bag of flour. However, the large one does hold a full bag of sugar (4lbs.) with some room to spare. The brushed finish is fantastic and the oval shape is even better. Now, if only calphalon would come out with a matching extra large canister, about 4 or 4.5 qts, I would truly be "one happy camper"!

This is a great set but I agree with a previous reviewer. The large canister does not hold a full bag of flour, at least not a 5 lb. bag of flour. However, the large one does hold a full bag of sugar (4lbs.) with some room to spare. The brushed finish is fantastic and the oval shape is even better. Now, if only calphalon would come out with a matching extra large canister, about 4 or 4.5 qts, I would truly be "one happy camper"!

recieved the package, the wrapping paper was rip up the box was smashed, it looked like some else had it first i bought it new and had it wrapped for a wedding shower.
