A highly recommended, VERY QUIET radon fan
BOTTOM LINE (well, I guess this is the TOP LINE), a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED replacement radon mitigation fan. First a little (OK, so maybe a lot) of history about my experience with RadonAway fans. As you will see, this review is as much about the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Fantech radon fan, as about the disastrous RadonAway fan it replaced. When I bought my house, a high radon test result had required the seller to install a radon mitigation system before the sale. When I moved in, several months after the system had been installed, it had a RadonAway fan that sounded like a jet engine. Having never had a radon system before, I decided the noise level was normal and I would just have to live with it. Unfortunately, after 6 years, it had not only gotten MUCH louder (up to B52 jet engine levels), but also began making clanking noises. OK, so it had been 6 years (and maybe 6 years was all the lifetime one could expect from fan units that run continuously), so I replaced the fan with the same model through Amazon. Now it turns out that RadonAway's business model is to deal only with Radon Mitigation companies – they refuse to guaranty fans sold directly to end consumers through Amazon. OK, so I get that they don't want the liability of some idiot trying to design their own mitigation system, but once the system is designed, installed, and the fan is simply being replaced with exactly the same model, one might hope for them to stand behind their product. Not so much. The identical replacement fan was initially quieter than the original, but it began getting noisier after 4-5 months. After 2½ years, the fan motor bearings had worn out: not only was the replacement fan louder than the original, but the fan blades also began bouncing up and down on the shaft and were banging inside the housing. At this point, the RadonAway fan (on the OUTSIDE the house) produced more noise inside an adjacent first floor bathroom than the bathroom's own ceiling fan. The RadonAway fan’s ductwork attached to the side of the house transmitted so much noise through the outside wall to an upstairs bedroom that it was difficult to sleep. So, not even 3 years, but time for a third try. Replaced the fan again, still with the same model RadonAway fan as was originally installed by the mitigation company, and... was pleasantly surprised to discover that this third fan was quieter than my refrigerator, even when standing right beside it outdoors! However, only a little over 2 months later, the third fan suddenly became about twice as loud as the either of the first two fans – apparently due (again) to bad bearings. So three RadonAway fans, all of which wanted to be jet engines. VERY DISAPPOINTING, to say the least, since the whole point of a radon mitigation fan is for it to run continuously (AND QUIETLY!) for years. At this point, I decided almost anything was likely to be better than the RadonAway fans. After comparing specs, I ordered this equivalent Fantech fan. Installation was simple – it directly replaced the RadonAway fan. After installation, it was very quiet. Probably a little quieter than the last RadonAway fan when it was initially installed. Now, 1½ years later, it remains as quiet as when first installed. We will see whether it still is this quiet after another 6 years, but as of now I STONGLY recommend the Fantech fans. This is a clearly superior product!

Perfect replacement for old Fantech HP190 radon fan
I had an old Fantech HP190 radon fan in my attic that was getting very loud. I replaced it with the new Rn2 model and am quite happy. The Rn2 seems well built. The Rn2 is slightly shorter and has different size connectors than the HP 190, but I had no problem finding some flexible PVC couplings that worked perfectly at the local hardware store (I used a 4" x 4" on bottom and 4" x 3" on top). The bigger problem was that whoever originally installed the fan used 3" PVC pipe with 4" adapters cemented in the ends. That gave the fan a little more stability, but made it impossible to slide the coupler up the pipe to remove/replace the fan. I ended up having to cut off the top 4" PVC adapter along with some 3" pipe back far enough that would allow me to add a standard 3" PVC coupler and 3" PVC pipe to get it to the right height so that the fan could easily slip in, but still allow the coupler to slide up the pipe for installation/removal. Wiring up the new fan was no problem, I just used the plug from the old fan. The new fan is working great and quiet. Fantech included a tootsie pop and an "Our fans suck" stick in the box for fun.

Works great, great warranty
Bought this mainly because the Radon-Away only has a 1 year warranty if you install it yourself. Fantech has a 5-yr, which goes to 6 years if you register. Installed it in my sump pit and Radon levels dropped from 40 to 0.5. So I added a "Cdmall Electronic Fan Speed Controller Variable Adjuster for Hydroponics Inline Duct Exhaust Ceiling Fans with 6' Long 120V 15A Cord" which let me reduce the fan speed so it runs quieter and uses less power. It wasn't that loud to start with but now you can barely hear it, and the Radon level is about 0.8. I installed it inside the basement thinking it would hold up better not being exposed to temperature extremes. I know the EPA wants you to put it outside but I did this to reduce Radon, not to please the EPA. Plus I have confidence in my mad skills at gluing PVC pipe together. Left room outside so I can move the pump outside if I sell the place. Bought the install kit which made the it very easy to hook up. Hardest part was cutting a hole through the basement wall. I also want to mention that the screws for attaching the lid over the electrical connection compartment were in a plastic bag kind of wedged in the bottom of the compartment; not that easy to see. Another reviewer said they were missing. Also, this does not need to be grounded and there is no place to connect a ground wire. I just used a 2-conductor cord I'd salvaged from some other appliance - finally my hoarding tendency has been vindicated.

Quiet Fan.
We got this fan last week. Installation was generally easy - however two issues 1) This fan was a couple of inches shorter than the Fantech HP190 that was installed and came with the house - that old fan had started making a high-pitched sound. The shorter length was a non-issue as the piping was adequate. 2) The new RN2 fan required a couple of 4.5" OD to 3" OD reducers (and the previous HP190 had 4" to 3" OD reducers in place). We had to go get new reducers from Lowe's

Fantech RN2 works great in my mitigation system.
I tested for radon when I first moved in and it was low. Unfortunately that was in summer when levels were low. I'm in Oregon where radon's lower than other areas so I didn't pay it much mind. I got an airtthings radon detector on a whim at Home Depot and as soon as it started raining in fall levels crept up and when it went past 4.0 I knew I had to do something. I almost called a company but saw that estimates would be around $1500-$2500 to hire it out. I looked at the materials and saw the job would run me about $250 to diy. I took a couple weekends to do everything but the whole job ended up around $140. I have a floating floor through most of the finished daylight basement but it was manageable to pull up the carpeted areas to seal cracks and found a good spot for the suction pit in the central hvac room. Radon levels weekly averages are 1-1.3pCi/l and overall averages are down to 1.1pCi/l. I'm satisfied. Looks like I got the RN2 at a good price compared to now but the fan is great quality, has strong suction and easily installed as a homeowner. I can't recommend this enough.

Perfect work
I installed this on last Friday, I did self install with concerns as fail and wasting money. But it was just unfounded fears, in my case, it was perfect work. As you can see on my picture, the level was keep in 9 to 10 before install. 12 hours after, it was slightly dropped to 2.8, and it was kept under 0.4 level after 24 hours later. The noise level, I was concern about noise before I installed too, it sounds like the natural wind sound, maybe higher, but not a louder than passing car outside. I put my phone to close for reference. There are many videos you can find for installation, I do highly recommend do spend lots of time to research and make a plan before. My case was totally work and now my family is in safe and enjoy basement without any concern. Thanks.

Right product (Rn2)for right job
The above photo is taken 20days after the fan wad installed. I have 1100 sfm footprint concrete slab in the basement. This DIY job is to improve the indoor air quality, hopefully to reduce the radon level from 150-200 Bq/m³ to somewhere minimum level. The piping (3" PVC S40) starts from furance room and runs into garage up at attic to the roof. The work runs smoothly and has taken 4 days to complete including material preparation. Upon running the fan, the current level (measured at 2nd floor) has droped down 70% at 12th hour, and 90% at 24th hour almost nothing left. Therefore, the objective of this job is achieved. Among many radon fan products, Fantech Rn2 is selected based the size of the footprint, noise level, sucking capacity and warranty length provided. Looking at the redult, a right fan is chosen. The fan is nicely manufactured and looks like fine quality. The amazing one is the noise level, extremly quiet!

Another successful Radon remediation
We started monitoring our Radon levels Jan 2021 using the Corentium digital meter. Values were typically running around 50 to 125 bq/m3. In early Oct 2011 they shot up to 250 to 400. We decided it was time for action. After researching DIY videos and reviews by others, we decided to go with sub slab depressurization using the Fantech RN2 Radon fan. Installation was fairly simple. The most difficult part was drilling holes in the floor and wall for the piping. I turned the fan on yesterday at 4:00 PM and 18 hours later the Radon levels had dropped to 25. The fan itself is very quiet although there is some wind noise through the pipe however it is in the laundry room and you can only hear it if you walk by the door. With the door shut, you can't hear it even outside the door. We are quite pleased. Total cost was less than $1000 even including a set of 5 carbide core drills and a hammer drill to accommodate SDS drill bits.

Parfait pour se débarrasser du radon
J’avais déjà fait mettre un tuyau pvc perforé de 4’’ sous la dalle avec du 3/4 net, il y a 4 ans. Cette année le taux de radon ayant augmenté considérablement par rapport aux années passées, j’ai finalisé en connectant cette aspiration et le résultat est vraiment bon. Cela a chuté à zéro en deux à trois jours. Par contre, je m’aperçois que le tuyau installé sous ma dalle aurait pu être disposé à différents endroits car il semble que l’aspiration ne se fasse pas au plus loin de ma dalle et j’enregistre encore à l’étage un taux entre zéro et douze becquerel. C’était malgré tout à 88 avant la mise en place. Le sous-sol quant à lui oscille entre zéro et quatre, mais plus souvent à zéro au lieu de 92 avant. Cf photo avant et après

The fan is very quiet.
The fan is totally quiet although not 25db as advertised in the description it is actually 42db. The description is also wrong as this unit does not come with a power cord. The 4 1/2" diameter on the input and output sides of the housing is difficult to find adapters but if you heat the 4" adapter with a hair dryer you can stretch the rubber enough to fit. Otherwise works very well.

Great motor for the purpose of removing Radon gas!
Very quiet! Mounted in basement on outside wall, in a closet. Cannot hear motor until you are actually in the room with the door open. There was no mounting bracket supplied so I had to make my own.
