First time player - Absolutely Amazing
This game is absolutely amazing. I have never played any of the other Super Smash Brothers players. I will say that this game is VERY easy to learn. It is an absolute blast to learn about all of the different characters and their different special moves. Never having played the older games I quickly learned that this is primarily a game to play with others (either on your console or online). The single player modes are rather limited. There is not campaign mode like a lot of games have. This game is really geared towards 2 - 8 people having these big battles, which are a ton of fun. My 2 boys (7 and 10) absolutely love this game and regularly destroy me. Some of my favorite aspects of this game are 1) The ability to play with 4 - 8 people all together is great. On Thanksgiving, as the adults were watching football the kids were playing this game for hours. It never got old, they would just pick new players and new arenas to battle in. 2) The graphics and music is fantastic. There is no lag at all, which is amazing because the fighters are constantly in motion 3) The arenas (where you battle) are VERY dynamic. What I mean by that is that most of the arenas are not just a room that you fight in. There are platforms that move, bridges that sometimes break, buildings that get destroyed, and all kinds of others gems. Very different than the old fighting games I grew up playing. 4) You can take your MII players and create new characters to battle with. When you do this you select 3 powers that your fighters has and which special moves he can do. It's a lot of fun to create these new characters to see what you can come up with. The only parts of the game that I do not like are (and these are very minor, not enough to bump it down to 4 stars) 1) Limited integration with the touch screen on the game pad. For example, even if you are using the game pad you still need to use the controls to select fighters instead of just touching on the fighter you want. This is probably the biggest oversight I found. 2) As you are fighting it's not clear who is willing (until the fight is over). This is determined by how many times your fighter got knocked out of the arena. It's clear when this happens, but during the fight you can't see how many times each fighter got knocked out (at least I have not found a way). Overall, this game is AMAZING. Easily my boys favorite game on WII U (especially the 7 year old). The controls are very simple to use, the concept is very straight forward, and the game is just a LOT of fun.

Show me your moves | Hands off my bread | You're too slooooowww | Personally, I prefer the air
I have been playing SSB since Nintendo 64. I played Melee until my eyes bled. Brawl was a major improvement but it disappointing in some aspects. Having now played this newest incarnation, I can say that it's all of the best elements from all 3 games rolled into 1 fast, loud, fun package. That's not to say there aren't some downsides, but it has far many more pros than cons. Sakurai is a supertroll who loves the fans, and this is his love letter. Cosmetically, the graphics are incredible. This is basically what we all expected from Brawl, now finally realized in HD. The animations are detailed. The little touches are all there. Part of the fun in this series is finding your favorite franchise and indulging. The sound is also spot on, with some strange changes that are explained by the fact that the characters are referencing the most modern versions of their games. One thing that will absolutely blow your mind, however, is the music. There are almost 200 songs in here to smash to and they are pretty much all fantastically done. Although I suspect most of you aren't planning to buy this for the music and graphics - no, the gameplay itself has never been better. It's just as fun and fast as it's always been, and it's still the easiest game I know that an amateur can pick up and immediately start playing. Some notable things that are different: - The much maligned "floatiness" of Brawl is gone. Heavy characters feel heavy again. - No more random tripping, which unfairly handicapped fast characters. - Certain characters universally considered to be overpowered are rebalanced. - The roster has been trimmed appropriately. I won't give specifics, no point in spoiling it. I'll end with Pros and Cons: Pros: - Awesome looking and sounding - Technically rebalanced - think Melee, not Brawl - No more Subspace Emissary - worst thing ever - Numerous single player activites - and the return of event matches - Online play is VASTLY improved and now includes voice chat between matches - A huge roster of (mostly) unique characters - Supports numerous control types - Custom Mii fighters and customizable standard fighters Cons: - A few notable omissions to the roster. One in particular that redefined the play style for many of us. Bring em back! - Target mode has been replaced with what is basically Angry Birds - The game-breaking annoyance of the smash ball has returned - 8 players at a time might give you a headache. Everything gets really . . . small. Worth your time.

... the pinnacle of smash though it is still absolutely amazing. The Good
This game is not the pinnacle of smash though it is still absolutely amazing. The Good. The game looks amazing. This is no doubt the most amazing smash bros that we have ever witnessed. The gameplay is sharp fast and optimized for competative play. Game freaking cube controllers. Tons of new modes, and re thought out classics. Huge roster. So far only 1 micro transaction and I hope it stays that way. Nearly 0 bugs which can not be said for most releases today. fun with trophies. I want to get all the trophies so I can fill out my trophy case. All the other games they were just things that I could read about other games. Now I have a purpose to collect them. Amiibos are actually really cool. Very well made and fun to level up. The Bad Easily unlockable characters. Smash Run is slightly ridiculous. I did win my first time I played but I had no idea what I was doing before the final round. All in all I loved this version of smash and I’m excited on unlocking everything!

Fantastic game, I haven't enjoyed a fighting game this much since Brawl. I grew up playing a lot of classic fighters such as Mortal Kombat's early games, Killer Instinct, Primal Rage, Clayfighter, etc... I always enjoyed those games for the sheer creativity that they put forth. When I first played Super Smash Bros. I wasn't sure what to expect but I had such a blast, and continued to enjoy the games as they came out. I was very excited when I first heard about the Wii U version that it encouraged me (among a number of other games) to get a Wii U. I anxiously awaited for this to come out and for the most part I was not disappointed. The characters all feel different from each other (tricky with such a large roster), the fight animations, backgrounds, music, and character models are all beautiful vibrant and most importantly fun. I recommend this game to any fan of fighting games, or those looking for something really enjoyable solo or with a group. My only real complaint was the removal of a Story Mode in the latest installment, while that is not usually a big selling aspect of fighting games, I felt in Super Smash Bros. case that it was something that very much played as a strength and selling point. It's absence is noticeable and frankly the one "bad" idea that the creators of the game made really. It should be in the game as it really had this wonderful intermix between the different characters and how they responded to and with each other. To me, I think they should have included one. That all being said the game is something I recommend to anyone who has a Wii U or is getting one, it is a strong game that you'll find yourself going back to for either a quick bout or two constantly. It is also a great addition to the Super Smash Bros. series and for the most part will not leave you disappointed.

Best multi-player game since a very long time. Felt like multi-player is dead in other consoles after ps2. But, Nintendo stands best in multi-player platform and delivered some of the best classics in its earlier consoles including wii. And this game is a tribute! The best multi-player game for next gen consoles.

I'm not big on video games, but we bought this for my son and I recently sat down to play it with him. It was a lot of fun, however I spent the entire time just button mashing, as I had no idea what I was doing. There are a lot of button combinations that do different things, something my 8 year old failed to mention when we started (probably so he could kick my ass). Once we started playing as a team against the computer, it went better and we ended up racking up enough points to unlock a new guy. I don't fully get it, but I can see why he finds it fun.
