The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act

Art, pop, death, murder mystery and teen desire.
I loved the art and coloring. Every fifth panel or so you will find yourself staring for several minutes. Some characters are developed more than others, but I didn't mind. As it advanced I found myself turning back just to make sure I caught what I think was being said between the lines. I love when books do that. The set up of the Pantheon drives me to know more. I'm in Mr. Gillen, lead the way.

Excellent Storytelling
Every time I walked into our FLGS, the cover of The Wicked + The Divine caught my eye. I vaguely knew what it was about, I knew the art was incredible, but I always reasoned that I'm not into comics, so why bother. When I hear people reading comics, I always jump straight to DC or Marvel, and I just never had any interest in superheros. I knew this wasn't a superhero type of story, (though I guess you could make the argument that it is, since they are gods,) so eventually curiosity got the better of me and picked up Volume 1.I am so glad I did. It's amazing. The writing is incredible & the artwork is fantastic. Like any good book, it gripped me right from the start. I was really impressed at how much the story developed over 6 issues. I didn't feel like I was missing information, which I have experienced in the few comics I've read.So for someone that isn't into comics but kind of wants to be, this has been a great stepping stone. Though, I'm already feeling a bit of the frustration of knowing I only have one more volume + 1 issue until I've caught up and have to wait for more.

So good
This was such a good graphic novel! I’m new to reading this format, but this has always been on my radar. It wasn’t what I was expecting- it was so much better. The characters were great. There were funny parts, tense parts, and lots of action. Definitely recommend!

An interesting read
It’s definitely got some pretty art and a fascinating story spin. I love stuff involving mythology and mythological gods so naturally I had to pick this up. There were parts that felt a little confusing and scattered, but I feel like that was intentional. A way to keep you feeling as confused as the character of Laura. I feel like the bit at the start felt unnecessary? Mostly out of place since it isn’t like we don’t know the premise. But perhaps something tied to that comes up later. Definitely could’ve done without the intentional misgendering barb and the reveal that it was an intentional one being how it’s revealed a character is transgender. Lucifer or not it didn’t feel necessary for the character in any way, shape, or form. Hopefully there’s no more of that needlessly harmful nonsense in other issues. I’ll likely at least give the next volume s try as it was enjoyable and did have an interesting ending.

One of my favorites
Love this series. I picked up 3 of these to introduce friends to it. Gods as pop stars, with all the drama that comes with it. Also more than once you get to an issue that recontextualise the whole series!

Love it!!!
I was hesitant at the plot of this novel at first, ill admit the art style is what brought me in. Im hooked! The art is mesmerizing, and the plot worthwhile, I find the different characters amusing and entertaining. This is such a relatable graphic novel in some ways, definitely will be picking up the next vol.

AMAZING
First of all, I loved the idea. Gods that incarnate in mortals every 90 year and live two flamboyant years and then they die and cycle continues. It's also very easy to love and/or be mesmerized with the gods and their personalities and to identify with Laura. I mean, everyone kinda have that celebrity that they love way too much, doesn't they? The writing is simple and will hook you, the art is awesome and VERY beautiful and once I started Reading I didn't stop until I finish it ( fast-paced and lots of questions in your head, quite a killer combination). It ends in a plot-twist...Side note: my favorite gods are DEFINITELY Lucifer and The Morrigan. You still here? What you're doing? Go read it !!!

An interesting take on ancient gods & goddess!
This graphic novel was an interesting take on ancient gods & goddess and how they influence humans for a short period of time before dying & then are brought back almost a century later. The artwork was very colorful and the gods and goddess are unique. This graphic novel's artwork had the fashion from the 80's incorporated throughout the book even though it was set in 2014. Overall, I liked the story with the various point of views, however, some of it was confusing due to lack of background knowledge of certain characters which hopefully will be discovered as I continue reading this series. This is a graphic novel series for adults as it does contain profanity and adult content.

Great but its missing something
After reading the first issue I was intrigued. The interesting premise of God's reincarnating and in our "modern" world as teens combined with how good the art looked I dove right in finishing it in a few hours. At first I thought this was amazing ... then the more I thought about it I realised no it wasn't as amazing as I thought it has a few flaws. I managed to gloss over them with how fast I had read the story. The main character we follow isn't a god or a journalist but a 17 year old fan of the gods, the gods are like rock/pop stars and she's went to see most of them and adores them. We follow her as she teams up with a journalist to find out the truth about a situation that happens with Luci (Lucifer). So instead of seeing the gods and what they're up to and their politics ECT and instead of showing us what they're up to instead theirs lots of sitting around chatting. I like exposition and alot of this information was interesting but every time you meet a god you quickly get more of a feel for who they are in 1 or 2 pages than pages of chatting. The other problem I had was jumping from issue to issue within the graphic novel I sometimes felt like it jumped to much like I'd missed a bit. At one point their talking to someone then next issue they're at his place i think possibly, as they talk about having been forced to take a car journey there on the third page in.I would still like to read the next issue maybe it picks up however If it's like this one I won't be continuing.

As good as Sandman
And that is literally the nicest thing it is possible for me to say about a book written by someone who isn't Neil Gaiman. And its almost as good as Good Omens, and that's a bloody close thing. I'd write a longer review, but I have to go read Volume 2 now, so I don't have time to wax lyrical about how this is one of those oh so rare and perfect bits of art that as I read it my internal universe shattered into infinite pieces and then coalesced again incorporating WicDiv into its build.LOOK, Gerard Way said it was great, so stop reading my meaningless GoodReads Review and go read the book!!

Engaging Morning
My copy arrived in the post this morning. A short time later I have now devored it and expecting waiting for the next one. This is a series I hard heard about for the past few months. I had little about the plot (something about Gods being reborn), I have heard people rave about the art style. I can admit to having been intrigued by what I had heard, enough that earlier this week I ordered this volume on a whim. It arrived this morning and I started reading it. Next thing I knew it was a few hours later I was closing the book with a very statisfied feeling. The story have been engaging (even if I did have to reread bit occasional. The art felt fresh and crisp and the characters all defined though not fully to an extent where they no longer held an mystery. The problem is I am now waiting for volume two be be published in a few months... Oh well. I am sure Luci whould say anticpationt adds for the final flavor of the dish

The art style is brilliant, and the characters are fairly interesting but
It's a collection of the first 5 comics. The art style is brilliant, and the characters are fairly interesting but, like others have said, there needs to be some character/storyline development in the next Volume. It seems to get going straight away but there's no time spent explaining things.Volume 2 comes out soon, and the comic books that follow on from that are out just before. So it's the perfect time to start/catch up ready for the next arc.

Beautifully drawn/coloured, fantastic script
Wow. I kept seeing this book pop up whilst browsing and decided to take a gamble. Without going into too much detail, every 90 years a set of Gods return to earth as group of young mortals, they all set out to live life to the fullest and attempt to influence the world before reach their 2 year limit. Beautifully drawn/coloured, fantastic script, wonderful plot. I was immediately hooked, ordered the second volume before I reached the halfway mark!Just as a note: This comic does have some gore/violence/profanity. I love it but some people might not! So just a little heads up!
