I think those are the times when people order brand new and get sent used. So, I got the 4 cup model. First use I followed the rice, water, oil and salt ratio in the instruction book using 2 c of Royal Basmati rice and avocado oil with regular table salt. I set the timer to approximately 55min and then kept it on warm for about 10-15min. I am very happy with how it turned out, but next time I won't let it sit in keep warm because some of the rice did seem a bit too soft. Highly recommend! UPDATE: After using this a few times I found that if I soak the rice for an hour first, then the grains get nice and big and fluffy. If I don't soak it, then the rice on the bottom (tadiq) doesn't seem to absorb enough water during the cooking cycle. The smaller is easier to use because you put the rinsed rice, water, salt and oil, topped by a paper towel between the lid and pot. Turn the knob and let the rice cook. It comes out crispy every time with little effort. Updated: The last photo shows the smaller rice cooker with Basmati rice after 1 hour. The bottom was burned with a smaller portion of rice. The larger rice cooker works totally different. You have to pre-boil the water in the rice cooker first. Then, you add the rinsed rice, salt and oil, topped with the paper towel between the lid and pot. If you cook an entire pot of 8 cups of rice, I recommend cooking it for at least 1 hour to get the golden crispy color. Do use a lot of oil if you plan to cook the rice past 1 hour to make the sides even more crispy with either size rice cooker. To serve, I put a glass pie pan on top of the pot of rice when ready. Close the pie pan on top of the pot tightly with heat-safe mits. Quickly flip the finished rice onto the pie pan. Note: the rice cooker works on both basmati and jasmine rice. The first photo shown was my first experiment cooking 2 cups of jasmine rice in the 5 cup rice cooker. The measurements in the manual work for both kinds of rice. I don't know how to make tadig on the stove, so this rice cooker is an amazing tool in the kitchen if you are preparing many dishes to go with it.
