This has saved me from sleep deprivation!
I have cat-induced insomnia. My cat meows besides the bedroom door until I wake up in the middle of the night. She gets enough food before bed and again in the morning, she’s been checked by the vet, she has plenty of toys, but still, she meows for attention. She isn’t allowed to sleep inside the room for other reasons (plus she would still meow at me even if she was inside). I’m not a person who can fall back asleep easily once completely awake. I start becoming anxious and thinking about things, and next thing you know, hours have gone by! It was getting to the point where I slept less than 5 hours a night most of the time. I thought I would go insane. I tried a lot of things before this sound machine. I wore high-quality, silicone earplugs. I left the fan on. I tried to put foam on the bottom of the door to block sound. Nothing was enough to muffle my cat’s meows enough for me to sleep through them! I didn’t have high hopes for this, even though I read through a lot of the good reviews before buying it. I always thought sound machines would only be as effective as a fan. When I tried this out, I first tried the fan setting because I liked how that one sounded. Then I tried the white noise setting and that one actually worked a lot better to muffle the cat noises. I think she’s even stopped meowing most nights now because I don’t respond to it anymore. The machine gets loud and I turn it up high. I still sleep with earplugs in, or else the sound would be too loud. The combination of the machine and earplugs are enough for me to sleep through disruptive noises, even as a light sleeper! If you’re worried about your alarm, if you keep it right next to your bed you should be fine. I tested alarms on my phone to see if I could still hear them loud enough, and I could! It might be an issue if you keep your alarm further away though. I haven’t experimented much with this machine because the setting I have it on with the white noise already works so well. You can adjust the volume to your liking. The sound travels up and helps to fill the whole space you’re in, rather than just occupying a single corner. The machine is also super small which I wasn’t expecting, and that’s great because it’s light, portable and not clunky. I worried where I was going to put it until it arrived and I saw how small it is!! Overall, if you suffer from noise-induced insomnia, or if you just need some comforting background noise to help you fall asleep, you need to try this little machine! If your cat is extra loud at night, then you especially need to give this a try. I’m so glad I found this!

Perfect white noise
I love this noise machine so much. I expected to use one of the fan noises since I've been using fans most of my life for background noise, but I fell in love with the first setting in the white noise category which is the lowest frequency. It masks my husband's snoring, the sound of the AC compressor turning on and off, the window rattling on windy mornings, neighborhood dogs barking, and rowdy get-togethers at the park next door. I wish I had found it sooner. I love being able to control the volume and that it remembers my selection everytime I turn it on. The power and volume buttons are easy to find in the dark, and I will be able to easily pack this to take on trips. No more buying box fans where ever I go! I cannot recommend this enough and am grateful to Wirecutter for making it their top pick. Might be pricey at a glance but so worth it.

Buy this one
I tried all the popular sound machines and this one is the best. Plenty of sounds to pick from. No weird buzzing or ringing. Truly no loop! Just consistent sound! It gets loud enough to block out all the noise of my house when I go to sleep first. The only thing that would make it better is an optional nightlight but not a deal breaker.

Benefits Sleep ... but some things could be better
Overall, nice little unit. Besides the mostly-positive reviews, reason I considered this model was the price (w/ discount) given the features, but the tipping factor was the Audio Out 3.5mm jack. Wanted a better sound than would come out of a tiny speaker in a plastic box right near my bed. I have amplified stereo bookshelf speakers in the bedroom that are 8' apart and would be more immersive, as well as better bass. While the LectroFan EVO jack supports a stereo cord properly, naturally the output is Mono (same to R&L). But it stills sounds TONs better with decent speakers! the output signal supports this setup very well, the signal is clean and robust However I'm a little disappointed in the menu of sounds; I agree with another Reviewer, you have 20 but you only scrape up a few that you like. To me most of the 10 Fan sounds are irritating or unpleasant, and lack the "whoosh" or"woom-woom" most peeps find soothing or hypnotic. They're not great from the EVO, and they seem even more annoying with good speakers. In either case they don't sound like a fan in the room, except perhaps the "Oscillating" one, which I like. On the other button's 10, my fav is the second Ocean, the milder one. So I only have 2 favs, the Oscillator and Ocean #2. However for tuning out various different specific noises, the 8 steps from Brown noise up to super-White is about right, you should be able to scramble-block any sources. So that button is not as sad as the Fans ... I'm also concerned about longevity based on Reviews here, it seems like there's some chance this thing will die in less than 2 years ... but for less than $50 I'll take my chances ... Overall, some things could be better but in general this is a nice unit; well designed, attractive and very easy & simple to use. I just wish the Fans sounded more realistic, maybe then I would use them more, LOL. With a few reservations, RECOMMENDED.

A real lifesaver
This thing really saved my life, it works so well. I especially appreciate how the buttons are designed to be operated in a half-awake state, reaching over from bed. Has a great variety of sounds, from basic nose to a bunch of specific industrial fans, I settled on one of those with a nice rhythmic bassy sound, really helps me doze off.

My Wife Thought I Was Nuts..
For over a decade my wife and I have put on the sound of ocean waves on our beloved Squeezebox radio devices as white noise to fall asleep to. We had a pug that would snore pretty loud, so needed something to drown that out -- and besides that, when it's dead silent and the house is creaking or there's some other noise to fixate on, it can sometimes be hard to fall asleep. So the Squeezebox device worked well, except several times a year or more there were either power glitches or network glitches that caused the white noise to be interrupted -- which would inevitably wake us up and have one of us walking over half-asleep to reset the radio, sometimes cursing at it because it wouldn't just reset. I eventually decided that it'd be nice to have something that just did white noise and didn't require any network connection -- or would restart itself if the power went off. I now have 4x LectroFan white noise machines. Two of this model and two of their more basic model. They all work well. I have one in the guest room for when guests are over, we were using one by our puppy's crate for a number of months, there's this model in our bedroom for falling asleep to ocean waves and then a sister to that one that is only for traveling. My wife thought I was nuts for buying the first one. Probably because of the fact you can play white noise on your phone, we had the Squeezeboxes playing ocean waves, etc. But then after we used it for a while, she started to love it -- and also love the simplicity of them. You just hit a button. It remembers the volume and whatever tone you had previously set. If the power goes out, it comes right back on with the same tone and volume. And it just works! No fussing with loading an app, with a phone heating up or battery dying during the night, or network issues to interrupt the streaming of the white noise. So all-in-all, very happy to have purchased this and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. There is no looping. It can get pretty loud. And it just works! With these having an advertised power rating, I felt really comfortable buying it. I think it's under 3w or something like that -- and that's how it should be. Yes there are cheaper options, but do they have a noticeable loop in the sound? Do they consume very little power? Are they good build quality? Are they going to heat up or burn up or worse? I'd rather pay a bit more knowing I'm getting a quality product these days, especially if it's plugged in 24/7. This is a buy-it-once type of device that should last for years and years judging by other people's experience, so well worth the cost for something you'll use almost every single day IMO. Definitely recommended!

If you need this, you need this, it does exactly what it's supposed to do
****CAN BE A MUST HAVE - SEE BELOW**** I was recently relocated back to my employer's corporate headquarters and given a cubicle that is very near a rear entrance door. There is a security badge reader on the outside that is not set up properly, so it beeps exactly like a heart monitor in an ICU, 24/7. The first hour it was annoying, by lunch time the first day, I was beyond annoyed and actually considering an early retirement. I raised red flags with the appropriate people, however those appropriate people are over 2000 miles away and not bothered by this beeping what-so-ever, so their assessment was "this is not an issue that needs addressed" even though the person directly across from me has taken to wearing ear plugs due to the same "non-response" dismission of his complaints as well. I cannot wear ear plugs; I'm on the phone/zoom meetings 12 hours of my 8-hour workday so that was not an option. I went to ChatGPT and asked for advice, the LectroFan EVO was what it came back with so I ordered it for same day delivery, had it in hand 2 hours later and complete game changer, no more ICU beeping along with an added benefit on not having to hear the clucking hens one row over from me talk about their personal stuff the entire day. It's not loud, no one on the phone hears it and people walk up to my desk, they do not hear it either. I don't hear the beep and have stopped weighing my early retirement options or gone in search of a golf club to send the card reader into the next county.

Great white noise machine. Not really worth the cost.
It does a good job blocking out my son's shouting about video games downstairs. The volume is a decent range. I didn't look at the measurements and was expecting something bigger. It's perfect for right next to the door. I like it, but I doubt I'd recommend it for the cost. It's not worth $60+. For that price, music should be an option. Nope, all white noise. I could fit the thing in my hand, which is perfect for packing, hotel stays or with relatives.

Great little machine for canceling screaming noises
If you're living in the Netherlands, this is a lifesaver! I wish I would have known how good this is before, it'd have saved me from years of misery. It drowns the noise of screaming children outside in the daytime, so you can focus working and shouting drunkards in the night, so you can sleep. I do need to put the volume quite high to drown the noise of the children as they're VERY loud, but then the sounds are almost completely muted. I like the compact size and white color too. Maybe would be nice to have more nature sounds. Though the basic fan sounds seem to work the best for canceling out noises. Such great machine, might get a second one at some point.

Molto utile
Veramente molto utile.
