These are the true dimensions of the tool itself. It has a nice strong magnet on it too. **Q: can the center level be read from the side rather than from the top? thanks!** A: It can be read from 3 sides **Q: Could the magnet (which is soft and has to be glued or taped on) have some unevenness which would affect the accuracy of the level?** A: It could. Mine protrudes a uniform 0.50mm below the surface of the level for the full length without any noticeable waves or bumps. The other side of the level has the groove to fit to a pipe and measures the same error as the surface with the magnet. **Q: How does this compare with the stanley 42-465 (http://www.amazon.com/stanley-42-465-9-inch-aluminum-torpedo/dp/b00002x2fe/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=utf8&qid=** A: Personally not familiar with the Stanley 42-465.
