How to succeed at your first job

More than a decade ago, I had joined Bain as my first job (post-MBA) and had the good fortune of having Meredith as my mentor - the best mentor I have ever had. She had a bunch of advice that has been of help throughout my career. Thankfully, she has now written a book to compile this wisdom and I thought so many of us could benefit from it.These are simple things, that your supervisor or colleagues might expect but no one might ever ask - and knowing them sets you up for success, if you choose to have it. - Anshoo

As a manager, this is exactly the right advice.

I manage a small team of mostly recent college graduates. When I read this book, I thought... wow - this is a collection of dozens of pieces of good advice that I either provide haphazardly, or people discover for themselves after making mistakes. What a gift to have it all collected in one place! I’ll be ordering copies for my team. And I found some of the advice helpful too.As a side note, many books in the career advice genre have essentially one insight you could summarize in two sentences, and then somehow fill the book with long examples, more detail than you need, etc. This book has, say, hundreds of pieces of good advice, packed in, without filler. Much better bang for the buck than most career books.

Good practical tips & tricks for any young professional

A very useful primer and summary of how to do well as a young professional in a high-performance white-collar work environment. These are tips that one might otherwise pick up working as an analyst/junior associate at a top tier firm which is famous for strong employee training like McKinsey/Bain/BCG, especially if one is lucky to have a good manager and mentor, but for everyone else, this is a short, sweet and decently complete overview into the importance of what it takes to do well at work, and things that people won't otherwise teach you at school or work, that may well provide the necessary frameworks to help someone realize their potential professionally, and avoid the frustrations that many young people can face.

Spot On

This is an invaluable toolkit for people new to the workforce. I love how everything is laid out in a very clear manner and you can easily navigate all of the different sections in the book.I wish it were around when I was entering my first job. It would have given me a leg up, and helped shape my expectations. Unfortunately, I had to learn many hard lessons myself! As a manager, I can't wait to give this book to the people on my team; it will enable us to function even better. I hope there is a sequel to the book about how to be indispensable as a manager!

Indispensable Advice for Recent Graduates

Indispensable is a concise yet comprehensive guide for recent graduates that want to excel in the workplace. Throughout the book, there's a strong balance between concepts and tangible solutions that help the reader implement the concepts. If the reader fully embraces the advice within the pages, they'll find themselves thriving, instead of merely surviving, in the modern workplace.I wish I had this book more than a decade ago as I started my career. But even now, the advice serves as a helpful refresher on how to maximize our potential in the workplace and beyond.
