Great tool and useful for the price
I used this compression tester on my car a few days ago. I have no experience with doing a compression test but it seemed simple enough so I watched a few videos and went at it. This tester was easy to set up and get hooked into my car. The gauge is easy to read and the hose feels OK. It has a pressure release valve on it so that made it easy quickly switching from cylinder to cylinder. Making sure it was in tight was a bit awkward though. You have the twist the tube but the braided outer part moves without the inner tube moving. You will need someone else or a camera to be able to read the pressure at first crank or if it isn’t holding pressure. It wasn’t long enough to put against the wind screen to read while sitting in the car.Overview: It is a basic compression tester that works.Pros:Easy to read gaugeEasy to useExtra fittingsPressure release valve for easy and safe disconnect.Cons:Short. Unless you are doing this with a buddy you will need a camera to be able to ready the pressure at first crank. It feels like the steel braid might break early on but I don’t expect the tube that holds the pressure to break. Conclusion: Money well spent on a solid piece of equipment. I was able to get a rough engine health check with this and will hopefully allow me to diagnose any future issues.

Great tester, with a couple of quirks
I have no other gauge to test this against, but on my test run this afternoon, the compression numbers I came up with were pretty much right where they were expected to be. Except for one cylinder, which is about 65% of the others. I had looked into renting a similar meter locally, but it was poorly reviewed due to being very inaccurate.I did have to dock it one star. I probably would have rated this 3½ starts if I could have. First of all, the instructions for using the solid extension were too vague--it only has a rubber tip and no threads, so are we supposed to just hold it in place in the spark plug hole? I was able to use the threaded attachment on the hose for the spark plug holes, but I had trouble keeping the adapter screwed on. I ended up doing the compression check without the adapter, since the 14mm threads fit perfectly. What really failed me, though, was the gauge itself. For some reason, the needle was past the post at the "0" mark, and the pointer half of the needle was slightly inclined. I was able to knock the front face off of the meter (it is steel, and pressed on snugly) with a plastic scraper. After lifting the needle back to the right side of the post, I straightened the pointer and reattached the front face, and it has been working for me. Aside from that hiccup, everything is well built and sturdy.

Very nice.
This is something that every shade tree mechanic should have. Sure you might only use it once or twice every few years, but checking compression on a non running engine is one of the first few steps. Believe me, I had a triumph engine that I did everything too, but check the compression. Should have been the first thing I checked with a unknown non starting engine, had really bad compression.Build is nice! I got it because of the metal hose, but now I think I may have gone rubber ( the metal may scratch your valve cover it the spark plugs are down deep). Like the brass fittings, I have heard of the attachments on other sets coming off and getting stuck in the head, that would be bad. Well, this unit no problems like that. Get a set, because it comes with different size fittings and then you don't have to buy different sizes fittings later.I used it on a 2004 Triumph Daytona 600.

Works?
I just don't know... every time i buy a pressure gauge it's always reading low pressure. And then i buy this one and it's reading twice the pressure so i was excited at first - but then the dealership said did the same pressure test and came up much less then what i got. Its a crap shoot..

Works on Motorcycles
I was overhauling my Honda ST1100 motorcycle which has 100,000 miles on it and I wanted to check the compression.I originally purchased another Equus compression tester, but I did not realize I needed a special adapter so that it would work with my 10mm spark plugs - so I had to send that one back to buy this one.I looked at buying the adapter separately, but this 6 piece kit was a better value for the money. In my case, I used the 10mm adapter which screws onto one end of the braided rubber hose. The other end attaches to the gauge and then the adapter is threaded into the spark plug hole. The tester worked well and I feel it was well worth the money to verify the compression in all four cylinders was consistent with each other and within specs. Well worth the money paid for piece of mindFor those of you using NGK spark plugs, the first letter of the spark plug is the thread diameter:A=18mm B=14mm C=10mm D=12mm J=12mmSo in the case of my NGK CR8EH-9, these have 10 mm threads

GREAT compression tester
GREAT compression tester, I bought another one at harbor freight that was junk, it read all the compressions as too low and when I would check them with my coworkers snap on compression tester it was obvious that I needed a new compression tester. so I bought this about 8 months ago and use it daily. its very good quality and comes with the adapters to fit pretty much any spark plug hole. I like how it has a big gauge so its easy to read compared to other smaller gauges

Easy to use
I like that it came with multiple fittings for different size spark plugs. I also like that the hose is detachable from the pressure gauge. That makes it easy to screw hose into the plug opening. I have no way to confirm its accuracy, but all cylinders tested within normal limits. The accessory with the black rubber cone/plug at the end was useless because I couldn't hold it in place tight enough to make a seal.
