Can it be used on a bradford white water heater with the anode on the hot water discharge?

From the Guide that came in the package: "The system can be used with any water heater ... 50 gallons or less. Also, [it] must have a stand-alone anode (i.e., the anode is not combined with an outlet nipple)." The rod goes straight in, not intended to be bent. One connector is on the top of the threaded assembly; the other goes to any convenient ground lug or screw on the tank.

What is the length and diameter of the rod. Is the rod moderately flexible, to allow insertion with limited space above the hot water heater?

There is no flexibility. The entire length is just under 22" from tip to end of the electrical connections.

Is this the correct rod for a gpvl-50? or am i better off with one for a larger tank? thanks.

this works for heater 30-50 gallons, so yes it will work on your tank.

Is the top of the rod insulated to prevent "over protection" near the top of the rod?

The top of the rod is not thermally insulated. I assume it is electrically isolated from the 230V of an electric water heater element.
