Mechanical problems...
The copy I received had a problem where the aperture would stick wide open about every third image if you shot in a burst. That doesn't give you a lot of confidence in the lens' long term durability. So I had to return it. It also locked up a D750 and a D7200...The optics are okay but they certainly have problems. Chromatic aberration was definitely an issue but that can be dealt with in editing. The lens also lacked contrast. Even on otherwise decent images it was clear this lens wasn't resolving a lot of detail. Yongnuo's 50mm 1.8 had more contrast and detail when comparing it. That said if it hadn't been for the aperture issue I probably would have kept the lens because optically it would be a somewhat unique portrait lens in perfect lighting conditions. It's definitely for still subjects.Like most reviews have noted the autofocus is simply not good. Aside from being slow at f1.4, it would consistently hunt and shift focus to the background instead of the subject. I also found that the autofocus was nearly useless in low light. The sweet spot for this lens seemed to be F2 to F4 in bright lighting. At 5 and above the bokeh was not smooth at all with the aperture shape being very evident. Color saturation was pretty good...

Great lens
I have a Nikon D850 and this lens works great. I am an amateur. I am just learning. But I am very pleased with this lens

Good lens at a good price
This lens is a steal at the price. It is decently sharp with good color rendition, particularly stopped down slightly. It has a very nice background blur that allows focusing on an object or person in the foreground. This is a good lens for street photography or for any photography in which the photographer wants to focus on an object and blur out the background. The autofocus is reasonably fast and fairly quiet. This not a Tokina Opera 50mm, but it also doesn't cost $950.00. Given the price/quality ratio, this is one fine lens.

For the price, this is amazing lens. Do note the AF is noisy though. Is well built and feels solid in hand. Focus is sharp. Hobbyist, Amateurs if looking for a 50mm f1.4, should start with this lens.
