Good Quality Build
After reading some of the reviews on this tumbler I was concerned that I ordered a dud. When I received it, I was actually pleasantly surprised and I wonder why the reviews are so bad. I find nothing wrong with this cup.... so far.My goal is to drink a lot of water per day and with my regular cup at work, I would have to fill it up 5-6 times to get my daily intake. With this cup being 30oz, I really only need to fill it up 3 times so the chances of me meeting my daily intake goal has just gone up a lot.To test it out, I filled it up with cold water and put 6 ice cubes in it at 10:15p and checked it at 7a. As you can see from the pictures, the water remained cold all night. My next test was to see how it fit in the cup holder in my car. There were no issues there. The tumbler tapers near the bottom so the base fits standard car cup holders and also makes it easy to hold the cup itself.Because so many reviews are complaining about the lid, that was my last test. Upon first glance I saw nothing wrong with the lid. It is clear plastic and has a rubber gasket seal and a slide-open drinking hole. The lid can easily be taken off, but has enough suction that it doesn't fall off. The slide part works just fine and the hole is big enough to pour enough water in my mouth.I did turn it upside down to see how leak-proof it is...and it is not leak proof. Water spilled out from around the edges, but not from the slide portion. So there may be an issue if the tumbler tumbles over, but there is no problem with leakage simply drinking out of it.I like it. I like the look of the brushed stainless and the logo is stamped into the metal and is not glaring or obnoxious.

Room for Improvement: Needs a Better Lid
I selected this coffee tumbler because we do go through coffee in the house and a tumbler this size is good for making iced coffee drinks (for those that like that kind of stuff) and for those that like a big cup of coffee (that would be me). This cup is not ideal; the main issue I have with it is the lid.First off, this is a very large tumbler. The average I have seen in tumbler size is 20-24oz. This one is a full 30 ounces and that’s a lot of coffee if you fill it up. That’s not a problem at all, but be aware of this before you purchase. I like this size because it allows me to put the amount of coffee in that I want and leave some room at the top to add creamer if I want it and to put the lid on without spilling.Ah, the lid… This is the weak spot in this tumbler. The lid has a slider that opens up the lid to reveal an inadequately small hole through which the coffee flows. I found myself frustrated quickly with this and I replaced the lid with one from another tumbler, after which all was right in the world. This is unfortunate; almost every lid I have gotten with other tumblers – including smaller ones – has a larger drinking hole in the top.Another issue which does not affect me much but will definitely be a problem for others is the shape of the tumbler itself. Most I have seen have been shaped such that a third-party handle can be attached and the tumbler then can be carried around like a regular coffee mug. The smooth sides don’t permit that. If you have to have a handle for your coffee cup, this one will not do. This is a personal preference, and probably impacts those who drink coffee in the car more than anyone else. Finally – mine came with a nice dent in it. Doesn’t affect usability, but it’s still very unfortunate and I'm not happy. There is room for improvement with this tumbler. The size is great for me, though some might not want one this big. The lid needs to be rethought, though, which is the biggest problem with it.

Excellent vacuum tumbler, but the top leaks both liquid and heat.
I measured heat loss in the Tahoe Trails tumbler and compared it to my go to thermos, the Takeya. Both have stainless steel double wall vacuum designs. I put 145 degree F water in both and put on the top. In one hour increments I checked the temperature in both. All three performed well, but the Tahoe water dropped 23 degrees in three hours while the Takeya dropped only14 degrees. I used a FLIR thermal camera to look for heat loss, and it is clear that both flasks lose heat from the top. This is typical and not surprising. However, the Tahoe Trails tumbler has a very poor cap which not only leaks water (if you move it quickly) but leaks heat as well (the white indicates serious heat loss).I took off one star because the top is rather poorly designed and does not keep liquids as hot (or cold) as one might hope given the use of a vacuum flask. I should repeat that the double wall tumbler is not losing much heat at all, and is performing as well as the more expensive Takeya (compare the thermal signatures of both in the picture). Roughly 95% of the heat loss from the Tahoe Trails tumbler is through the thin top.

A Great Mug with a TERRIBLE Lid
The mug itself is very nice. It keeps drinks hot or cold as desired, it is easy to hold, and it is HUGE! But the lid makes it useless for traveling. I was very embarrassed when I took it to work and spilled coffee all over myself and the floor. No matter what I do, the lid loosens and coffee spills everywhere. I use it as a very large mug for my desk, but I don't use the lid. If this weren't a free review item I would have returned it.Made in China.

Keeps Coffee Hot
Some reviewers said they had trouble with the lid leaking but mine seems to fit tightly with no leakage. The slide opening will leak a little bit, I don't think I've ever had a slide opening on a lid that a few drops didn't leak out of so I have to be extra careful to make sure it doesn't accidentally tip over. Just don't overfill it and keep it upright. It holds more coffee than I could possibly drink so I will be using this for cold drinks mainly. It kept some water hot for several hours though of course the temperature decreased over time. I think it's well made out of good materials and should last a long time.
