The Zoom H4N and H4N Pro Remote
This is exactly right for the Zoom H4n and H4n pro. I have both.

A must-have remote
It works flawlessly! I used the remote today during an awards event with the recorder on a low tripod. I found it to be most valuable in allowing adjustments to the levels remotely while recording. This eliminates the handling noise caused when you make adjustments by pressing buttons at the side of the unit Itself. A bonus is it came with an 11-foot extension to allow the remote to be almost 17 feet away. A downside is that the cables are thin by necessity and could be damaged if mishandled. To monitor the levels you still need to see the screen on the recorder. The remote does not have its own display.

Great remote access for recorder
This remote control for the Zoom H4n audio recorder works great to allow me to best position the recorder for sound and still have full control of it functions close to me.

Works as advertised but could do more
It is hard to complain about this remote since it does exactly what I expected when I bought it but using it a bit makes you wish the could have included a few extra functions, esp. since this is pretty pricy for just a little remote. I do think it's a good product but I also find a few annoyances pop up for me from time to time. For starters, I really wish the thing had a low battery indicator. I can estimate the Zoom's recording time but it sure would be nice to have some visual warning as well. Generally, if you are using a remote, the recorder is where you can't see it.Secondly--and this is a bit more involved--but a somewhat better level meeter (perhaps three or five LEDs instead of just one) would be really helpful. You can adjust levels on the thing but you can really only tell if you are red-lining or almost red-lining and while that is workable, it leaves a little more guesswork than I would like. Again, if you are using the remote, you generally can't see the recorder well enough to use the meters.Thirdly, I wish this had a control lock separate from the one on the recorder itself. If you lock the controls on the recorder, the remote doesn't work either. Typically, I just make sure the buttons on the recorder aren't in any danger of being pressed but in the rare cases where that's not possible, it renders this thing essentially useless. I do also have problems where I accidentally hit buttons but that happens rarely enough that it's practically a non-issue.This all being said, this little remote does allow me to do what I bought it for, which is to allow me to start and stop recording while I have the Zoom recorder packed away in my bag. I have found it to be quite durable and even to be reasonably water resistant. (I would not dunk it in water but I don't worry about getting rain on it.) Overall, it is a bit expensive but it has served me very well, which I hope is apparent by my four star rating. I just wanted to point out a few problems in case they are deal breakers for anyone.

A must if you have a Zoom.
If you are thinking about purchasing the Zoom h4n do it. And then also make sure you get this. I would recommend you get one of the kits, because pretty much you are getting a free sd card.If you record without this, then you WILL have handling noise. And it's horrible, super bassy and no way to work around it. So get this and then you won't have to worry about it.Plus a nice feature with this (and the Zoom h4n) is that you can mark clips while you are recording. This is handy for me when I am conducting interviews. If the person says something that I like then I just hit the record button again and it places a mark in the file. Bring it into my editor and I don't have to search for it on the timeline. Also, on a side note. If you do own the Zoom make sure you install the newest firmware. They finally have separate volume control on the XLR inputs.

but it has been useful in my recordings by reducing handling noise and allowing ...
A friend gave me a slightly used Zoom H4n portable digital recorder so I could record my music. I decided to purchase the remote control for increased convenience. It was shipped from Japan, so understandably it took a while to arrive. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box to find it also included note from the seller, a small gift made by the seller's child, and a piece of candy. This warm, human, and personal touch is very rare in the modern world I know, and was greatly appreciated. Not only was the price of the remote control very reasonable, but it has been useful in my recordings by reducing handling noise and allowing more convenient control of the recorder. It has been money well spent.

Haven't used this yet. When I've used the H4nPro, even with its rubberized exterior, it pics up the noise from handling in the recording (easily removed in editing). When I turn the recorder on and off, the click is picked up in the recording, a minor inconvenience that I edit out. I understand this will eliminate that as well as direct handling noises. I'll post those results after I've tested it but I see no reason why those extraneous noises would be picked up using this remote. The five star rating is for construction.
