Almost 5 stars
I bought this with the sole purpose of grinding up Felix Goody Bag cat treats for my cats so that I can sprinkle over their food as opposed to a hand full, so they can still get the taste (which they love) but consume fewer treats. This is a stylish little, powerful and cheap machine but there are some drawbacks which I would not be able to live with if I used this for coffee every morning...- I think using a grinder is a skill I've yet to master, as I've yet to obtain any consistency in my grinding. This may frustrate some.- The bowl is non-removable; thus, cleaning is a bit of a faf.- The grinder is messy. After grinding and removing the lid, the remnants sit all around the top of the bowl/lid seat, which needs to be brushed off after every grind to allow the cover to sit flush and lock into place so you can use it again. Half of the remnants you can brush into the bowl, the other half that sits on the outside, fall onto the worktop when removed, unless, of course, you want to get the vacuum out...- The Remanence of a grind gets to places you cannot remove. The lid is clear plastic with a silver-coloured cover around the edge. Everything looks ok when you look through the top into the bowl, but when you remove the lid and turn it over, you will find remnants in between the clear plastic and silver overlap underneath. There doesn't appear to be any way to separate these pieces. For someone who likes to deep clean things after use, I find this annoying. So, in summary, as I said, if I had to go through the above every morning to make my coffee, I would have bought a machine with a removable bowl and taken note of the overall design with regards to how the lid closes and will remnants be left in the way hampering it's subsequent use, however, so far I've only done 500g of cat treats which I know will last a good few months and this whole grinding session from unboxing to putting away took only 10-15 mins, so for my infrequent bulk grinding for under £20, on balance, I'm happy, and I can live with that.

Great product for grinding coffee beans
Having owned a similar product which broke, I purchased this after reading online reviews and it was put straight to use. Nice and compact shape. Good build quality and grinds enough beans to make a few cups of coffee easily. Can also be used for spices etc. As easy to clean as these things can be!

Good grinder, awkward to clean.
Grinds really well but difficult to clean as you can’t submerge the body but can’t take out the part to wash where you put spices/ coffee etc. damp cloth works well however.

I have bought these product 3 times before so knew it is decent
Had bought this product multiple times in the past for others so knew it checked out. It is a simple and reliable kitchen device and I should think it would last a good amount of time. I use it to grind coffee beans exclusively but apparently you can use it for other sorts of things, may investigate that in future. I bought another type of coffee grinder years and years ago that was all ergonomically designed and so on and it was extremely expensive and did not last very long, after that I remember that my parents used to use a very simple affair like this one and it lasted for years and years. And this Salter model is well built.

Disappointing product and aftercare service from UK household name
I was expecting durability from the UK household name of Salter but this item was a big disappointment. It stopped working after half a dozen uses. Then I put it away and forgot about it. Then it fell out of guarantee. Then I took it to a repair cafe and they identified that the micro switch had failed (the black rectangle on the first picture). Then I contacted Salter to obtain a replacement micro switch but said they couldn't supply one and they couldn't even give me a specification for it so I could source it myself. The item is badly designed (in my opinion and that of the electrician at the repair cafe). For example it's difficult to clean – surely a basic requirement for an item that bills itself as a coffee and/or spice grinder. I will not be buying any other Salter products again.

Great for small amounts of spices
Very good for grinding up spices and nuts, e.g. lemon grass, almonds. The blades are set low, so they pick up even small amounts. Cleaning can be tricky, to avoid getting water in the motor and bearings. This one replaces the previous one - the same model - which had lasted for about ten years.

Distinctly fine
The first one of these that I received was faulty. The second one worked fine.It generally grinds well, although can leave some bigger pieces. It's a little temperamental—the lid has to be perfectly seated in order to turn on and it feels like it might be a point of failure. It looks fine, it's very difficult to clean well and there's no ventilation so you'll get steam if grinding anything hot. It's generally easy to use and does the job
