It is a tradition that we all look forward to. I finally bought this book to add to our traditions leading up to Resurrection Sunday. It has not disappointed us! Ytreeide is a master at suspense and weaving a compelling tale. The children and adults in our family are all on the edge of our seats as we listen to the tale unfold. I appreciate the cultural references and explanations given in the book. It's helpful to understand the context of life in Jesus' time. There are many opportunities to have great family discussions. Because of the subject matter (crucifixion, a parent being in danger, etc) more sensitive children may find it scary or too intense. There is no way around the brutality of what Jesus did for us. This book will be a wonderful tradition for our family to enjoy for many years. Review: Great read aloud for advent and lent - Any of the Easter or Christmas books in this are fantastic. They are good for older children with the amount of danger and fearful situations. You can read aloud and omit parts for younger students. They are not 100% Biblically accurate, but they show a different perspective.

Wonderful Easter Living Book
This book has been wonderful to get an accurate understanding of what life was like in Jerusalem and see the Easter story unfold. We have enjoyed it this year with my 7, 9, and 11 year old. For the younger kids, I wouldn't plan to read it straight through in 4 weeks but my 11 year old didnt want to wait for the rest of us and took it upon herself to read it through. An excellent, interesting, living, adventure story of truth.

Amazing read aloud for family. Loved by parents and children. Very helpful to understand Jewish history and culture at the time of Jesus's death.

Very good story line. Easily kept the kids interest.
We have 5 boys ages 15,13,12,10 and 5. They all loved this book! Often they would ask to read 2 passages instead of 1 because they were so interested in the story! Love the scripture verses at the end of each passage that help tie it all together. We read Jothams Journey during Christmas and the kids enjoyed that some of the characters carried over to this story. There are 25 short chapters. Was a bit more difficult for us to keep on top of. With Jothams Journey, the story of advent, you read a passage each day. We started this book too early and only needed to read a chapter ever few days so it was wasy to get behind. Next time we read this I will make sure we map it out a littlw better.

Absolutely Wonderful
My wife got this book for lent, and I began reading it to my boys each night. The story was so wonderfully written, some nights I would read two or three chapters, much to the delight of my children. The story itself is very engaging. We really enjoyed how everything was so beautifully woven together with Biblical fact. To comment on the reviewer that gave it a 2 star, the Bible verses and the paragraphs at the end of each story are actually the most powerful. The story engaged us, but those end verses and comments went straight to the core of the heart with surgical precision. In fact, my own personal faith was strengthened greatly by reading the end verses and comments, and I might have received more from reading the book than my children! I would highly recommend this book for anyone - all ages - children and adults alike.

I bought this book to read to my children for advent at Christmas. I didn't realize that this was actually the story of Jesus' death and resurrection. So I saved it until Spring and read it leading up to Easter. WOW! It was so hard to only read 1 chapter at a time! Some days we had to keep reading. It is the story of Amon, whose father has been accused of stealing from the Temple treasury. Amon works desperately to clear his fathers name, and in the process comes to meet Jesus. The story is full of suspense and surprises. It gives you a better understanding of Jewish culture and the power of the resurrection of Jesus. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone! My children absolutely loved it as well, and asked me to read it for a second time the following year. And they loved it just as much or more the second time around.

As always Arnold Ytreeide story telling abilities are exceptional! We would recommend that you first read Jotham's Journey, Tabitha's Travels and Bartholomew's Passage before beginning this one as this story builds on the previous adventures. It is significantly longer than the other stories. Advent is 4 weeks, while he gives approximately 7 weeks to read through this story. Our crew enjoyed getting to read it so far in advance to Easter. The author does give additional suggestions about how to read it if you are not inclined to read that far in advance. It is engaging and exciting. Our children are enjoying it greatly, and range in ages from 8-13. Parents and grandparents continue to look forward to family reading times!

Delightful story for the whole family to read together over Lent. Give yourselves ample time to go through it as the daily stories get longer as you get closer to Easter.
