Here is why it gets 5 stars in my book... It comes exactly as described, and does not include the Porsche crest on the back side of the fob. I knew this going in, not a problem, but i forgot to order the crest and was feeling nit picky when I went to swap over. I didn't want to tear up the old key casing until I had the crest for the new fob backing. At the same time I was tired of one of the buttons on the opposite side falling off the fob with the old key... Long story short, I swapped the button facing side and rubber button pad onto the back half of the old fob, essentially using the back half of the old key and the front half of the new one. Snapped together just like the factory and worked great. It looks and feels sturdier than the original, but the dimensions and internals are absolutely identical. If it weren't for the price tag, you'd never know this wasn't a factory key shell. If there was a 6th star for a review, this would have gotten it. Great product and exactly as advertised.

I bought two of these to replace the original set of keys for my '05 Porsche 911, and can't be any happier with the change. Both of my keys had cracked and one occasionally separated to spill out its guts in the parking lot. I was skeptical but the quality of the new units is superb and feels much better in my hand, with a studier and more attractive matte key fob. It took me about 30-40 minutes to change the internal parts out to the new unit, but I was quicker on the second one. By far the hardest part is removing the transponder in the original key, which as others noted is glued in. My method was to use a box cutter to cut out the narrow sides of the transponder, then score and carefully wedge away the plastic on the longer sides of the transponder. At first I was very carefully and light on my cutting, but realized quickly that I needed to be more forceful to cut away the surrounding plastic walls (where the transponder sits inside). Needle nose pliers help with the removing the battery contacts too. I was happy to find a new Porsche decal with adhesive backing in the unit as well to place on the key. You can either cut the key that comes with the new unit or simply transplant the original key to the new fob, which is what I did and was very easy (just keep an eye not to lose the spring that holds it in). I also kept and used the old silicone casing around the circuit board because it had a little lip that held the circuit board in, which the new silicone casing did not. Overall, it's remarkable value in terms of quality for less than $20 and less than an hour of your time per key.

Needed to repair a 2006 Porsche Cayman key fob that had a broken button. This key was recommended in a forum post several years old. The upper half of this key fob - complete with buttons and water/debris shield - snapped right onto the original OEM key and fit perfectly. That was a huge relief because I didn’t want to cut/grind/melt to remove the potted RFID pellet from the lower shell transfer it. The bottom half understandably lacks a Porsche logo but that didn’t matter because it was possible to re-use the original lower shell. Great fit and great value - for less than $20 everything works again which is a bargain!

I dropped the key for my 2011 911 Cabriolet and one of the plastic buttons broke off. I ordered this item and used the plastic button half of the case (I’ll call it the top half). The entire process took less than a minute and it’s working perfectly as near as I can tell. The only mistake I made is that I should have ordered a 2 button replacement as the third button is unused on my car. Overall I’m very happy with this inexpensive fix. No key cutting, minimal effort, good as new.

My main button on my 997.2 key fell off and I had no idea where - probably didn't matter because if it falls off, it's likely broken. So I ordered this to replace it and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to transfer the internals, so I have no idea how easy that transponder would be to deal with but the top cover with the buttons fit perfectly onto the original key. This is a really good quality key case - looks identical to the original and is just as nice. Also, take note: the Porsche crest is not on the backside of the case, but is included inside the case and apparently has adhesive on the back so that it can be attached into the recessed area on the case. I'm saving all that incase I need it later. Need to repair your 99.2 key - don't think twice, just order this and save a tone of money compared to Porsche.

Better than going to the dealer to replace the cover when the internals all still work well.
