![Ingmar Bergman's Cinema - Set [Blu-ray]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/410mXEuVTUL.jpg)

In honor of Ingmar Bergman’s 100th birthday, the Criterion Collection is proud to present the most comprehensive collection of his films ever released on home video. One of the most revelatory voices to emerge from the postwar explosion of international art-house cinema, Bergman was a master storyteller who startled the world with his stark intensity and naked pursuit of the most profound metaphysical and spiritual questions. The struggles of faith and morality, the nature of dreams, and the agonies and ecstasies of human relationships—Bergman's films range from comedies whose lightness and complexity belie their brooding hearts to groundbreaking formal experiments and excruciatingly intimate explorations of family life. Review: If you like Bergman, treat yourself - I have been a fan of Bergman films since I gingerly picked up Summer With Monika on DVD around 15 years ago. I bought a number of others in the Tartan collection at the same time but since upgrading to a Blu Ray player decided to upgrade my films. This set is superb and well worth the price. So far I have watched the first 3 films and have been very impressed with the picture quality and can’t wait to get to the showcase films. I am following the recommended “set list” which I think is a great addition as with many artists who have a large body of work it can be difficult and sometimes overwhelming for someone coming fresh to their work to know where to start. The book that comes with is excellent quality and enhances the viewing experience ten fold. My only gripe it that when I got mine out of the packaging there were some scuff marks on the book and the outer sleeve of the disc holder which have more or less disappeared with a bit of a clean. Review: Glad I bought the set, even though I had doubts due to cost - Really satisfied with the service. It got shipped faster than it said it would be, I'm not sure if this is related to the seller or the desertcart, but either way, it made it much more convenient for me that it shipped before the estimated shipping date. As for the product itself, it's just what I wanted. It's brand new, I got it sealed, the only complaint that I could have is that one corner has slight wrinkles on one side, but I assume it happened during shipping somewhere so I don't want to lower the rating based on that. The set itself is amazing, most films have some extra stuff, commentary from Bergman himself, some of the actors or other people from the film crew. Restorations are also really good, I watched it on a large 4K OLED TV and it looks great. One more thing to note is that disks are region lock free, so they can be played on any blu-ray player, I personally used PS4 Pro The book accompanying the discs looks amazing, it has reviews of almost every film, including interactions between Bergman and some people related to the production of the movie. Also, both the book and the set itself follow suggested order in which movies should be watched, even though it's not strict, it's purely a recommendation. I enjoyed reading about a movie before I watched it, and the order in which these movies are suggested make sense to me, so I followed it. Overall really happy with my purchase and I'm really glad I bought this set

Great collection.
A superb set. Great quality films. The "book" the Blue Rays are presented in is very classy with lots of interesting information. A must have for an Ingmar Bergman fan.

The best of the best… and Region Free!
Excellent box set from one of the great filmmakers. Excellent gift for the movie lover in your life or your son/daughter just finishing film studies in University. Important to remember, this is Region Free!

Staggeringly good
This is one of the best things I think I’ve ever bought. Criterion have lovingly put together the ultimate Bergman collection. An absolute must for any film fan. For what you get it’s a bargain price too in my opinion. Go on treat yourself.

Best Box Set on the market!
This box set at double the price would be a steal, the number of films in this set, the restoration, the full book that comes with it and the wonderful curated viewing order from Criterion creates a must have for anyone thinking of exploring Bergman at a fantastic price.

Beautiful
Had a bonus payment and decided to treat myself. I didn't expect the box to be so big, though to be fair the dimensions are in the description! Anyway, it fits on my shelf and it's absolutely beautiful. There's at least a dozen truly great films in here, and I'll be checking out the less familiar ones for a while yet. If you're on the fence about spending this much on a boxset, I'd say go for it. One of the best blu-ray sets around.

This is an absolutely stunning release by Criterion. Particularly welcome for folk like me in the UK, who previously had so little of Bergman's work available on Blu-Ray (only a couple of his films are licensed for BR over here, and the individual US Criterion releases were Region A locked, whereas this box set - crucially - is Region Free). The set itself is a really handsome object: a monochrome slipcase made of substantial card - iconic image from Persona on the front, and the image of Ingmar on the back - and housing - * the inner booklet-style box of 30 Blu-Ray discs which host the 39 films plus substantial extras, and * a high-quality 250-page colour/BW book of A4 / US letter format The Blu-Ray transfers are nearly all up to Criterion's tip-top standards - I imagine the few that are slightly less impressive have issues with the source material. The films themselves - well I imagine if you're considering buying this you're already familiar with at least some of Bergman's output. Suffice to say that one of the 20th century's greatest filmmakers is represented here by nearly all of his work on film. I'm presuming the handful of absences are due either to licensing issues or to problems with the source material - but all of what are generally considered his foremost works are included. They range from the modern and experimental - Persona and The Rite - to the timeless and monumental - The Magician and The Seventh Seal. From the harrowing - Cries & Whispers and The Virgin Spring - to the light and delightful - Smiles of a Summer Night and Fanny & Alexander (pleasingly, both the 3-hour cinematic version and the 5-hour TV version of the latter are included). OK, you can't truly put a price on great art, but one other thing I feel has to be mentioned with regard to this set is the sheer value it represents. Criterion's individual high-quality Blu-Ray productions tend to retail at between $20 and $30 per film. The $150 I paid for this box works out at less than $4 per film - which is ludicrously good value, especially when you factor in the lovely and substantial book which accompanies the disc collection. The price point - and the Region Free formatting - makes it feel like the folk at Criterion made a constructive decision to make this work accessible to film lovers across the globe, and as someone who has been critical at times of their pricing, I feel credit is due. In short, this 100th Anniversary tribute really does justice to the oeuvre of a great director - and has almost immediately become one of the favourite things I own.

Phenomenal, the best box set i ever gotten from the best company. Quite a few titles that are new to me, and this is my first Blu-ray only purchase, it is such a momentous time for me as a collector. I plan on getting the Varda and Fellini sets soon. My love for Bergman is re-ignited with this immaculate set. I wish there to be more like this, comprehensive or complete sets by the great auteurs of cinema, what would be a dream come true would be for Criterion to do a complete Fassbinder. This Bergman collection with the amazing book is a perfect new beginning to the best period of my collecting life. MORE!
