Good for my collection
Added to my collection of Vol. 1s, the art style is a bit different from the shows, but not a huge jump. I enjoyed reading this when it arrived even though I'm already knew everything that would happen.

Great Manga not for Kids
I remember first running into this series on Toonami when my little brother was randomly watching this, the first characters I saw was Akame then later Esdeath. I wasn’t really sure about the settings of this series but I was sort of told about it. 3 years later if I remember correctly I watched the entire anime and wow that was a Roller coaster 😆! I loved it because if was different from a traditional Shonen story but gosh no children should view this.This is actually the first physical manga series I’ve ever bought out of all of the one I have now and honestly this is just an extra copy because the “First” one is in my bag but its condition isn’t as clean like this one since it is my travel book for references. That first one was purchased around 2015 lolI said I love this series because it’s different, the story is straight forward but can get violent. Characters are great but in this series it’s not like One Piece where people survive blows that are supposed to kill you instantaneous so get that out your system for this manga 😆! The manga art style is not the best at the start but it improves and I love that!

“People with the hearts of monsters… that’s all you’ll find there…”
Tatsumi dreams of joining the Capital’s garrison with his friends and earning the money needed to save their country village. But there are worse things than just monsters in the Capital…Akame ga Kill doesn’t take long to crank up the tension and stakes in this introductory volume. It’s dark and gruesome in its depiction of the horrible realities faced by the general population and the root cause of it all, as well as the extreme measures being used to fight back. The core characters are doing bad things for good reasons, but are fully conscious of it and have no illusions about being righteous. This self-awareness is a good sign for future thematic depth of plot and characters.There is a large cast and a lot to establish, so at the moment several characters are a bit one-note, and the violence both in premise and implementation of the story could drive some readers away. The art, while decent overall, is quite dark and sometimes muddled, making the action scenes hard to follow.However despite the small flaws I am intrigued with the general setup as well as Night Raid and their mission. I can see myself continuing with this if I get a chance.

Quality is usually fair-poor
I love these books even the prequel (zero) is great read. However the condition on all the Yen press mangas I’ve bought on Amazon come in fair-poor condition. I have all 15 of the prequel and so far 3 of the original manga. Every single one of them came either unwrapped, ripped, scratched or just very dirty. Not sure if they just ship returned items as new because the quality had been so bad and can tell it had been used. Overall satisfied with the manga story line but not with the quality of books. Also note, I ordered 3 at a time and delivered together. 1 came wrapped but still damaged with a big tear on spine and the other two came unwrapped and ripped and scratched all over the edges

An Assassin just like you and me
There are a fair number of manga and their related anime that depict normal people thrown into abnormal or even horrific scenarios (e.g. High School of the Dead) and we the reader or viewer are left watching the ways these contort the protagonists and antagonists as they struggle to cope inside a new set of life governing rules. What really has intrigued me about Akame ga KILL is that it takes a cast, both protagonists and antagonists who by most modern societal definitions are deviants (professional or hobbyist killers) and reveals they ways in which they try to recover or engage in some mundane, everyday activities most of us take for granted like building and maintaining a network of friends, making light of life's circumstances and others. Akame ga KILL indeed has great action sequences and interesting powers/abilities.. but what takes this series one step further for me are the human side of the cast and how much more brutal that makes plot developments.

Akame ga KILL!=Game of Thrones
I been a fan of manga for years. However, I been looking for something different, and Akame ga KILL! fits the bill. This story is very violent. It has such a simple story and at the same time its a very deep story. Tatsumi a young man who leaves his home to earn money for his village, so he goes to the capital of the empire to make a name for himself. However, after seeing the corruption of the empire, he joins a group called Night Raid, who are assassins trying to restore peace into the empire. As the story, goes on it adopts the same themes that the made the Game of Thrones so successful. These themes include depression, corruption, realism, death, and idealism. The First Volume introduces the world of Akame ga KILL! its a great start to an even greater series. This is a series I recommend

The Capital isn't what it's cracked up to be... but if you're still venturing inside, you'd better bring an umbrella...
Akame Ga Kill is an action packed and gory filled tale to be told with several scenes of sorrow.There is an anime adaption on this series however I have been told the anime adaption deviates from the manga material. In this volume I have yet to see anything significantly different but that does not mean I did not enjoy this book. Far from it!Our tale ensues with our young protagonist Tatsumi, a young lad on his journey to the capital to make a name for himself and earn some money to be able to help his village back home recover from the state of poverty. Once he reaches the capital, he sets his goal on joining the capitals army but is denied enrollment due to being assertive and refusing to comply to the regulations required. However all hope is not lost...A young woman stumbles across Tatsumi and begins to reassure his placement in the army as a higher up... For a small fee. In this instance, it shows how gullible some of the countryside folk can be inside the capital and truly can not comprehend the misguided behavior of its people. The speculation of the capital is certainly not what it is sought to be...Upon being swindled, Tatsumi is left to wonder the capital and think of another process of achieving his goal before meeting a new ray of hope when a member of a rich successful family discovers him on the streets. Skeptical of being burnt once by the capitals community, he reluctantly accepts their offer for shelter and does what he can to assist them to thank them for their kind gesture. That is until Night Raid show up, a small elite force of the liberation army set to riddle out the very foundation of the higher up officials that contribute to the capitals corruption. Upon their assault on the family that gave him shelter, Tatsumi draws his sword and is ready to put his life on the line to protect the only people of the capitals community to show him kindness until he is once again, shown the corruption of the capitals ways...Akame Ga Kill Vol.1 is a large 240 page manga that is spread across 4 chapters accompanied with excellent artwork, fantastic expressions, thorough character development and superb dialogue. I picked this up after watching the anime adaption and thoroughly enjoying the absolute thrill ride it is, hoping the manga would be no less. I am not disappointed! I already acknowledge that the manga will deviate from the anime at some point and I look forward to it but here in this volume it is almost identical.Akame Ga Kill is potentially the best anime I have watched this year thus far and we're not even half way through what has been a great 2015! (I am aware Akame Ga Kill aired in 2014, it just wasn't till spring this year did I get round to it) I strongly urge anyone that enjoys a gory trip filled with hardships, epic battles, comedy and even story progression from the opposite side (The Captial's Forces) to give this series a shot. Whether it be watching the anime or reading the manga. I have had a blast and can't wait to start volume 2!

One of the better graphic novels I have read recently.
Loved the anime and enjoying the manga. It seems to be expensive everywhere to buy this series of graphic novels. So please don't be put off by the price.
