Heroes

Purchased this along with The Coldstream Guards "At Their Best". and wish to convey my appreciation to these fine musicians and their brass ensemble. Someday I will visit the British Isles with the intention of visiting villages and listening to the brass bands they boast of. But the review; Heros is unique in it's presentation of various military-themed movie scores along with brass band standards such as Elgar's "Nimrod" and Walton's "Crown Imperial". Then there is Here's to Heroes, from "Dances With Wolves", and the most enduring and magnificent "Hymn to the Fallen" from "Saving Private Ryan". I can't listen to Williams' score without tears welling up inside; memories of 18 months in Korea in the early fifties.

This CD is a fine selection of music which encompasses the many forms of heroism from fictional accouts (Where Eagles Dare) to the everyday heroism of facing war with the elements (Eternal Father). The selection are well nuanced and the arrangement of the pieces is well done, keeping a nice variety to the performance.This is a welcome additon to the musical libraries of all who appreciate the excellence of the Band of the Coldstream Guards.

If you like military marches, or even the periodic "movie tune", this is a good set of music. Gladiator most surprised me. I did not buy the album for that piece, but it's the one that keeps popping up in my mind during the day. Some of these pieces have intricate movements that done really well. If you listen closely, you can pick out all of the instruments; a great recording. Well done!

These recordings and the performance are emotional and moving. What a great selection of music and so very well performed. Wow! Do be aware that strings are used on a few of the selections. So if you're buying this because you don't like fiddle music, don't expect to be completely free of fiddles.

This CD is an example of what a good military band can sound like when its recorded by a mainline record company like DECCA. These are guys that do pop music stuff so they know how to pump the sound and make it loud! This is what they have done to the Band of the Coldstream Guards. The music selection also adds to the excitement. This is a fun collection of what could be termed pop military music. Some famous movie tunes from the past mixed with classic works by Walton and Elgar those most English of composers. Even Kennenth Alford gets thrown in with his ubiqitous "Colonel Bogey" march. Casual listeners and those new to military band should find this a fun way to listen to music they might not normally. If it draws in some fans for the military band sound then all the better! Graham Jones, the Director of Music for the band has done a clever job promoting this item in the UK. The CD was released in support of service charities for the British army and one suspects this has added to its popular public appeal there. It will be interesting to see if HEROES catches on here in the USA. Perhaps if it does might we see a sequal of pop marches or something along those lines with the same supped up sound for the band. The price will need to come down for sure as this reflects market exchange rates. A fun CD for sure with some exciting and moving music.

Best cd I ever bought. Some songs are very emotional Well worth the money.

Only words I can say beautiful but yet powerful. This is not ordinary March album.
