Not the prettiest, but the best designed!
I bought this when I was looking for a pretty cake safe to keep on the counter and was frustrated by the dimensions of the fancy ones, that won't even hold a full sized cake, and the price just for a glass dome. Then I found a glass pedestal with a tall dome on Amazon that looks fine and was a reasonable price, so the Wilton went onto the high shelf. Then came the layer cake with the strawberries that had to be refrigerated. I was so glad I had this! No way was I putting the pedestal in the fridge! When they call this a "carrier" they're not kidding. Most cake safes have a handle on top, but they do rattle and are meant for carefully shifting. Once the lid is locked on, it's really secure. I put the cake in a deep fridge drawer and hauling it in and out by the top handle is no problem at all. I didn't put anything under the cake plate to keep it from sliding around, but the cake never hit the sides of the top, even though they're tapered. There's plenty of height for both cake and plate, and the trough and clips that secure the top to the bottom keep it from twisting or rattling. This is really a superb design. Not decorative, but it has every other quality one would want in a cake safe, and it's really light, too.I was also impressed by reviews praising Wilton's customer service, especially for help with clips that ware out and things like that. All in all a fantastic product at a reasonable price.

Very substantial and very big!
For some reason, all my married life, I've used cake caddies that I bought from discount stores. In retrospect, since I bake a lot, I have no idea why I didn't spring for a nice one. Well, I did buy a nice one made by a leading plastic retailer and the person from whom I purchased it didn't tell me I'd opted for the larger size. I don't think I even knew a cake recipe for cake that big so I never used it and never tried a new one again. One day I was making a cake for just me and my husband and I decided to look at the cake carriers available here on Amazon and I loved the Wilton one. And I really went wild and crazy and bought two of them. I've used them twice and I love them!I particularly like the way the top snaps on to the plate. It's secure and it should keep the cake mongers from leaving the cake caddy open!Another note: It's early April, 2014, and I've used these cake caddies a few more times and I do wish they were a little smaller. I don't have much counter space so when I make a cake, it takes up quite a lot of needed room. If this is important to you, you might want to take it into consideration. I still give them five stars because I really like the locking mechanism on them.

Accident-Proof Cake Caddy
What a nice cake caddy—this beats any that I’m replacing. The dome is very high, and adequately holds bundt and angel food cakes with room to spare. I’ve found locking latches on most kitchen gadgets are cheaply made; not so in this instance. It’s the main reason I bought a new cake caddy—these latches are strong, easy to operate, and tightly seal in freshness. The caddy’s handle is no-nonsense and built right into the dome. For once I feel confident my desserts will make it to their destination without any mishaps, and the plain white platter makes everything look appetizing.

lid latches do not work
My wife baked and put 3 pies in this container for a christmas party. While carrying the container by the latched lid handle, the container popped open and dumped the pies on the floor. I had a very very mad wife. The containers I received only had two locking hatches but the amazon on line description says it has 3 locking hatches.not as advertised. Sending them back

Airtight, Transportable Storage
I've had this cake caddy for well over a year now, and I love it. It is tall enough to hold a 9-inch round frosted three-layer cake without touching the top or sides. In fact, it's taller than the glass cake stand and dome that I have. The base is solid, and the whole ting is made out of a sturdy plastic. The snaps that close onto the lid are removable, so while the whole caddy isn't the prettiest thing to look at, you can remove the snaps and have a cake that looks like it's just on a round, white base.I bring cakes and pies to work several times a year, and this works as a great transportation device. It is useful to remember to put some frosting on the base of the carrier before placing that first layer, as the frosting will sort of help hold the cake in place. I like that the handle to the carrier is built into the top, so I don't have to worry about it separating. I wouldn't use this for cupcakes, as the base isn't large enough to hold more than a half dozen or so, but it does work well for storing fresh bread. The only drawback to this item is that it is a space hog. While a glass or ceramic cake plate can sit on a counter and just look pretty, this looks messy when sitting on the counter devoid of baked goods. For that reason alone, I had to take off one star.

Plenty Big Enough for Me
This caddy is big and made of very sturdy plastic. The base that holds the cake is 12 1/2" in diameter. The lid's interior is 6 1/2" in height. It has more than enough room to hold the standard 8 or 9 inch round or square cake. The lid is tall enough to easily hold a 3 layer cake, unless you have it decorated with big, tall rosettes. For me, I just ice the cake and I'm done. I don't do fancy decorations. I like to bake bundt cakes. It certainly holds the bundt cakes with plenty of extra room to spare. Both lid and base are made of durable, tough plastic. It's much better than Tupperware plastic. The lid handle is actually built into the lid. It's formed into the shape of the lid, not attached. The three snap closures are easy to close and securely lock into place. The plastic has no odor. Very good value for this one. This is great for storing or carrying, cookies, brownies, cupcakes and muffins, too. Actually, it will keep bakery bread and rolls fresher for a longer period of time. The base clamps "up" and seals very tightly over the lid of this unit. I'm glad I chose this one.
