Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend Paperback – Picture Book, August 1, 2011

My first grader is a little obsessed with Scaredy Squirrel right now, and I love it. She wants to read the books to me, and we have a lot of fun talking about them. There is a very set, predictable pattern to these books, which helps in her emerging reading skills. Very cute, funny, and positive. Always a good lesson and fun illustrations. A family favorite!

I first read "Scaredy Squirrel" and loved it so much I knew I needed another book about the little fellow. "Scared Squirrel Makes a Friend" did not disappoint me. The fact that his friend is a dog adds to the humor, as Scaredy goes through all of his plans for keeping safe. My only problem with the Scaredy Squirrel series is the fact that he's a flying squirrel and because flying squirrels are nocturnal animals they sleep during the day. Somehow this should be addressed in the story so children don't expect to find flying squirrels gliding around during the day. Otherwise I loved the book and I love Scaredy.

My kids are 5 and 7 years old. They love all of these books.

The Scaredy Squirrel series is so complex and yet can be done so simply in reading. They're great for multiple levels of literacy development (ex: identifying/understanding literary structures like lists TO very higher level language comprehension with inferences and lots of social language opportunities). Highly recommend. So clever and entertaining for adults and children. Great medium for talking about anxiety and the appropriate sizes of one's reactions too!

The Scaredy Squirrel series is creative and a delight to read. I teach first grade and all my students can relate to the silly things that Scaredy is afraid of. You must read the first book in the series "Scaredy Squirrel". It will hook you and then, like me you will find yourself buying the entire series. My class loves the diagrams and charts etc. The illustrations are imaginative and interesting. This particular book is very sweet because Scaredy's friend is a big messy dog. What child doesn't love dogs? A perfect book.

I love reading these books with my kids because they laugh and giggle the whole way through the books.My kids can relate to many of the feelings that Scaredy Squirrel has and it helps them to learn that everyone feels shy or scared or whatever the case may be at some point. I really like these books because they are written in a way that gets kids attention and they can understand what’s going on and the illustrations are wonderful too.

I love this book. It can be used with many grade levels. Students can talk about planning and how to make list to accomplish things they want to complete. This book would be a great starting point of looking at different ways to present information because squirrel is very detail oriented. He has list for everything. Lots of talking points with children in this book. It is funny book, and squirrel learns a great lesson about not being afraid of new things.

Easy reads and fun for kids. My nephew reads these without hounding!
