A Failed Tribute to the Men Who Fought and Died There
This game is a disappointment on multiple levels. Despite being given some of the richest and most fascinating historical battles of all time to choose from, featuring exotic volcanic islands and lush jungle, exciting weaponry and two determined foes, the creators of "Battle for the Pacific" have still failed to create a worthwhile game that pays tribute to the American soldiers and Marines that died on the horrible islands of the Pacific.Dialogue is limited and repeated often, never do you get to know the men in your platoon or their feelings on the events in their lives. The controls are busted with no sprint functionality, which is key in a game where the main objective is to follow your commanding offer (failure to do so will end the mission without much warning). Aiming is stiff, hit detection is completely arbitrary and the graphics are on par with Medal of Honor titles on the PlayStation 2. The frame rate will often stutter or drop entirely when multiple characters appear. Sound effects won't always match up with what is happening on the screen. The A.I. is especially terrible, as Japanese troops will run in straight lines before turning to fire at you while grouped together tighter than grapes. As you stand still, you won't feel threatened by their Type 100 automatic rifles, which will shoot all around you like in the apartment scene of Pulp Fiction. The guns themselves sound terrible and nothing like that of similar weaponry in movies or in better games (World at War). The worst part of the game is that it simply was made without care. There are level designs and set pieces that are actually interesting and intriguing, but they are just not fleshed out or abandoned quickly after the player arrives. Levels end far too quickly, and tasks are repetitive (fetch this item, shoot down these Zeros, etc.). Levels like Wake Island and Leyte are practically carbon copies of each other. Luzon has you cross the same river and destroy the same artillery as on Guadalcanal. The Japanese do not fight in the game as in reality, for example there are hardly any pillboxes or machine gun nests in the entire game. At one point, you're told to stop a banzai attack, but the enemy doesn't charge, instead they set up 50 yards away and fire their rifles. The best part of the game are the later Iwo Jima levels. I was about to be much more kind to this game, but then as my squad raised the flag over Mt. Suribachi, called "the mountain" in the game, the game repeated some more great dialogue, "Move your [butt] etc. I had enough. I finished the game on normal in about three hours. I cannot recommend it.If only the developers took more time to build the game, this could have been a game worthwhile of then men that fought a brutal campaign that is still overlooked in many ways.

Unfortunately cant recommend. Other HC games are good though.
Too dated. Feels like HC tried to cash crop when ww2 games were in xbox hey day. Franchise does have a few redeemable titles though.

Awesome!!!
Although the this game is very short, I highly recommend this game to anyone. During my public schooling, I heard alot about the war that was raged in the Pacific theater during the World War II and I heard that these battles were difficult because how enemy outnumbered us in battle. But this games actually showed me those difficulties even on the easiest setting. This games made me actually think and come up with strategies to effectively accomplish the objectives of the game.

My 11 year old son loved this game
My 11 year old son loved this game, and it was an ego boost to him to be able to "win" in a relatively short amount of time. If adult-targeted WWII video games frustrate your child, this is a great option.

Graphis and overall play is totally lame.
I own 20 or so war action games for the Xbox 360. This is by far the worst game of the bunch. The graphis are mediocre at best even for 2007 presentation. The physics are clumsy and quite sub par for an Activision release. The cost seemed reasonable enough but as it turns out, not a great deal for this junk. Shame on both of History Chanel and Activision of marketing this crap.
