Five stars is just not enough for this touching novel. It is about a boy named Alex who is turning eleven on 9/11. It is a beautiful story told through his point of view as Alex struggles to take care of his sister, convince his parents to get him a dog, deals with a bully, and tries not to think about whether his dad may not be coming home. By reading this book I learned about what is was like for an eleven-year old kid on 9/11, and what the power of guilt can do to you. The book is also briefly told from the point of view from The Man In The White Shirt. This man was actually in the building when it got bombed but he escaped in time. You realize how these people had no power over what happened, how heartbroken they were, and how much they want to help. You don't find out The Man In The White Shirt's identity until the end of the book. I won't spoil it, but I have to say it surprised me and I almost started crying. And books never make me cry. So, if you have read this review but you haven't read the book, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE!!! You need to read this book, it is amazing. Eleven stars for Eleven, by Tom Rogers.

Great read...hard to read but it really was good...I bought this because I am a Middle School English Teacher in Texas now and this is one of the books for our 6th and 7th grade Summer Reading...I can't wait to see what our student's come back with after they have read this AMAZING book! I am from NJ and a former FF/EMT during this horrific time in our nation and now teach so again it was a hard read but it was also a good read and recommend this book for YA readers as well as adults.

As a fourth grade teacher, I highly recommend this book as a read aloud. We've read I Survived 9/11, Towers Falling, What were the Twin Towers, and Eleven. All the books are fantastic books, but this book captivated my students more so than the others. How the author weaves a few storylines together keeps the reader engaged and making connections throughout. If you are a teacher and want a book that your students groan when you stop reading aloud, this is it.

My son is turning 11 later this year, he is kind hearted and sensitive kid, I was worried about how he would react to this book...he is also not all that excited about books and reading--he loved it it and finished it in 2 nights! His words-- "I couldn't put it down, I want to see what happens next, I am taking it with me to school today to read when I have a break!" He was engaged, loved the characters and just curious enough about the events of 9-11 to talk about it what happened, how people must have felt and still do feel. I would definitely recommend this book as a parent, and as a tool in the classroom to encouraged discussion of the recent historical events.

I had wanted to read this book for ages and then one day when I was in Big Sur and had nothing to read I remembered I wanted to read it on my kindle so I bought it and for the 2 days we were in Big Sur I could not put it down. I read it by the pool, at the beach, at meals, by the river thats how good it was.Alex was an amazing charachter. And the book gave you loads of info about 9/11 which was very interesting as that was before my time and I don't know much about it.The story made you laugh and cry but mostly cry! It was also very to the point and did not drag on. I just loved this book so much. That is about it but I think that is the longest book review I have ever written!

Eleven starts a little slow. It's the day before Alex's birthday. He wants a more exciting life and a dog. His parents several times tell him they don't think he's ready for a dog. Maybe they are trying to put him off track and there will be a dog or maybe not. The story takes a dramatic turn and quickly picks up the pace when you discover Alex's birthday is on the Tuesday of Nine-Eleven. The entire story takes place in three days.

Full disclosure: I am not a young adult- not even close- but I was captivated by this book about a young boy turning eleven on 9/11. It's a fun, gripping, poignant journey and after reading it, I get choked up even looking at the cover. This book should be required reading in schools because it conveys much more than the history books ever will about what it might have felt like to be a child on this fateful day. I looked up the author and he has written many Disney movies, so you can be sure this book is suitable for children. However, it also worked for me on an adult level and stayed with me long after I put it down. Highly recommend.

This was such a good book. My son's class was reading it at school and thought I would try it as well. Really enjoyed the plot and the story. Wondering the whole time...Who is the man in the white shirt?

My son and I read this together and sadly it was not as good as we both expected based on the previous reviews. It does cover the tragedy of the Twin Towers in a sensitive way for children to understand and from that point of view it helped to introduce conversations about what happened, but we both found the story about the boy quite slow and not that interesting.

Very different take on the day of the Twin Towers from an 11 yo perspective. Doesn't shirk the reality whilst keeping it suitable for a younger readership. In fact it is possible to read this book as a story of a (not very well behaved) boy who desperately wants a dog without knowing anything about 9/11 so less well informed children, many of whom would not have been born on that day, may miss that aspect altogether. Older readers will appreciate many more layers of meaning, including the front cover.

My son absolutely loved this book he read it within a few days and could not put it down - he loved the characters and the way the topic was covered it prompted lots of discussions about families and he was really excited to share things he had learn’t. My son reads a lot and this is the most enthusiastic I have seen him about a story.

My 10 (almost 11) yr old son loved this book. He has never willingly wanted to read a book before and actually went to bed early to read more. Brilliant story. Pitched at the right level, would highly recommend.

This book is well written and the story captured my son and I from beginning to end. It gives a good first insight into 9/11 and opened this event up for discussion.There is plenty of suspense and you really live through this intense , long day with Alex the main character.Beautifully written yet easy enough to read for my 11 year old, who really found this a very exciting read especially towards the end. Highly recommended!

This book was emotional rollercoaster. It was also a heart wrenching story showing me all sides of life. It was also a very educational book telling me the events of what happened September 11 2001. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it. By KW, age 11

Book hasn't even turned up! Love the sound of the book and the front cover looks really attractive, although it is basic, you can just kind of tell that the boy is lonely but he soon finds his own companion!

My 12 year old daughter absolutely loved this book. It resonated well with her since she is longing for a puppy. She got emotional as the book ended. She rates it 10/10.

Bought this for my son as he is really into his reading. He has just started to read it and finds the start good.

Great cover with meaning, great story and really well written. very sad and did make me cry. Extremely moving.

My 11 Year old son thought this was really interesting and tense with plenty of cliffhangers. He is quite 'choosy' in what he reads but he happily picked this up every night and read it quickly,

Helping children understand major disasters can never be easy, but this would help. well written and a good read that would help youngsters begin to deal with potential tragedies.

This book is amazing for young readers. It shows the horrors of 9/11 in a childs perception. It's one of the best books I have ever read and I rarely read books.I recomend reading this book for all ages!
