Artlicious - 9x12 Hardboard 6 Pack - Great Alternative to Canvas Panel Boards

I use these for my art, I tape my paper down to these boards and I can take my art anywhere. It's easy to store in progress paintings, and these boards have held up well. The corners do break away a bit but its pressed board and for what I use it for, it's not a huge deal.

I love these hardboard panels for painting! I just wish they made them larger. I especially love the way they 'grab' the paint when painting and how brush strokes look. You DO have to put a few gesso coats on before paint, but I actually prefer these boards to canvas. I am perplexed by the reviews, because the product seems to be more than thick and sturdy enough for any media.

I did not add a campitura/ground color but painted directly on the board as I was using acrylic gouache (code for acrylic paint that is matte). I loved the result on this board and would highly recommend as the price is great (even if you want or need to gesso first).

Size measured 2.64mm thick, by 11w x 14L, Sturdy, just as advertised. Tried finding equivalent in stock at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, JoAnns none found. Satisfied customer.

These are like the cardboard cereal boxes are made from, but about 10 times as thick, making them fairly rigid. I was hoping for a harder board, like old-school clipboards are made from. I now understand that that material is "tempered" hardboard (coated with an oil which is then baked to make it very hard). A mention of "non-tempered" in the description would have been helpful. That said, I have made these work. Just be aware they are not super strong, and edges can be crumbly.

These are sturdy support for drawing paper. We sealed one side to protect them from paint and tape when using watercolors on our easels.

Excellent for my use - making small laser cut boxes.

If you are looking for an equivalent replacement for the typical Ampersand hardboard most of us artists use, this is not it. If you are, however, looking for something cheap, disposable, and not very precisely cut (the edges are off by half a centimeter on most of these and cut at a slight slant on some), this may work. I use these boards for mounting watercolor paper with rubber cement, which I then remove later and reuse. The Ampersand boards are heavier, solid and well cut. These are light, fairly porous, and imprecisely cut. Great for practice or as a throwaway item, but I'd never use them for anything I plan to sell. I'll probably stick to the more expensive Ampersand for mounting my paper in the future, but use these as a face cover to protect my art. Also, they come wrapped individually. Big plus on that!
