I have a German-made pendulum wall clock that my parents bought in the mid 1960's. The original precision mechanical timing and chime movement was never cleaned and the clock had not worked properly for years. A professional cleaning job was estimated to cost at least $100.Instead I replace the mechanical movement with this battery-powered movement. The pendulum is just for "looks" -- the actual time-keeping is done by the quartz crystal inside -- like any modern watch or wall clock. This movement keeps very good time..The hands provided with this new movement are small and unassuming. You can buy bigger hands at many craft stores, but most of those were too large for my old clock's face.The "hub" connections for the original clock hands are a different style than the modern hands. My solution was to clip off the "hubs" from the original hands, clip off the "points" from the new hands, and then graft the ornamental original hands (minus their hubs) onto the remaining parts of the new hands using some silicone glue.The attached picture shows the result.Per the instructions of the new battery-powered movement, the pendulum will stop swinging when the single AA battery is getting low and in need of replacement. However the clock will continue to keep time in this situation.I chose this movement as I wanted a silent clock. There are other versions of this movement that include a digital chime feature using a small speaker.

We have a clock and the hands stopped working. Ordered this unit, was easy to install and works perfectly.

First, I'd like to say that I have done this kind of clock movement replacement before and never had a problem. In this case first off, the package came opened. Got it all assembled (not easily!) and second hand just stuck in one place jerking back and forth! Because the second hand would not move, the clock did not work (i.e. keep time). When I rotated the second hand by hand then the minute and hour hand moved. Because I thought may it was defective because the package came opened, I bought another one and tried again (dumb move). I got the very same result! Never again will I buy this brand. Do not buy! Waste of time and money.

Item was easy to install, shipping g and price were fine. The item quit after a week. Not good.

I needed it just for its pendulum as a "moving metal" function for Feng Shui purposes and works well for that. It took a while to find a succesful way to hang it so it would swing easily -it has to be at a very specific angle in order for it to swing. The battery compartment is also extremely tight and hard to get the battery in and out, but for the price, it's a good deal for my needs.
