It works, if you follow the instructions
You have to really follow the instructions. It is hard for me to set and release because I lack the strength. But they do work. You need to be sure and keep all light out except for the hole on the end or they will not work. I pay someone to set them by the head count, not time and effort. Found too many people I hired do not listen to my instructions.

Not nearly as good as the old model
The old model 0625 is nearly bulletproof, simple to use, and reliable. I ran over one of my 0625 traps with an 8 hp rototiller, which is about the only way to break one, and so I thought I'd try the newfangled one as a replacement. They've taken a proven design and turned it into a faulty contraption that doesn't work, is more dangerous, and is likely to be far less reliable. The first time I tested the new 0626 trap I successfully armed it by pushing down on the top cover. I touched the trigger paddle with my fingers, and it tripped successfully. But then the trigger paddle fell out of the assembly, and I can't figure out how to put it back in.I tried for about 20 minutes before giving up. During that time I was able to successfully arm the trap, but since the trigger paddle wasn't in its proper place, there was no safe way to disarm the trap. On the old 0625 design it's always obvious which parts move and which parts are dangerous, so it's trivial to disarm the trap by holding down the kill bar and swinging the trigger wire out of the way. With this new design armed, but with no trigger paddle inserted, I had to resort to poking all over the place with a wooden stick, hoping to find the secret trigger points. I finally tripped it and disarmed it, but it was a bit scary.Furthermore, the old 0625 design is built of a really tough plastic that feels indestructible. It's not exactly soft or pliable, but it's not completely rigid. It feels like the sidewall of a truck tire. Nothing short of a rototiller ;-) could harm it. I've left some of these 0625 traps in the garden for 5-6 years, and they still look like they did when they were new.The new one is made from a thinner, stiffer, more brittle plastic that I'm guessing will break down over the seasons. The old 0625 design comes in a 2-pack for $25 on amazon, so that's a better deal anyway. This 0626 is going back.

It's not my favorite
I have the older victor gopher black box trap, and unfortunately they discontinued them, so now they have these new ones. So, I prefer the older ones so much more because their smaller, the trigger seems to be more sensitive, and I have had lots of success killing gophers. Now, with this one, it's OK. It's bigger which isn't convenient because you have to make a bigger hole in the yard. I 'm not a fan of setting it up because it just doesn't give me a confident feeling like the old black box gopher trap did. I haven't had much success with this one. I think I've only killed one with it.With this all said, it's a good price, and it'll definitely kill the gopher. Like I said, it's a bit bigger, it's just requires more preparation of setting it in place compared to the old model.

Caught my 30th gopher
I had the previous version and with this new version, it’s much easier to setup. So far I’ve caught about 30 of these gophers. I’d recommend this to anyone but pay attention on how you set them up. The setup is important because you have know which way the gopher is traveling for a successful catch. Small learning curve but definitely doable.

Use in pairs; the hard part is finding an active tunnel ...
I'm a novice at this. Since I don't have a lawn, I tend to ignore these buggers, but in the past few months they've started running amok close to my house foundation. Symptom: mounds of loose soil appearing, but no actual holes visible on the surface. Based on reviews, my current approach is to pick a recently created mound, dig it out using an army entrenching tool (short handle w/shovel & pick), resulting in a hole about 8 inches deep and 10 inches in diameter, which hopefully cuts a gopher tunnel. The digging process tends to fill (and thus hide) any tunnel openings with loose dirt, so I poke around the bottom sides of the hole with the pick to find the tunnel openings and clear them of dirt. Then I set a pair of these traps back to back against both tunnel openings and fill in the chinks between trap and tunnel opening w/loose soil. So far (with minimal effort expended (2 holes dug) due to cold weather, which also seems to decrease gopher activity) I've caught one gopher.Summary: the traps seem to work, but that's only 5% of the solution; the other 95% is discerning recent activity and digging or enlarging a hole big enough to set the trap(s) properly.

Simply doesn't work
I've been using gopher traps the last 20 plus years, including the previous generation of this product. This version does not work at all. I tried several times and the gophers ate my bait but it never tripped the trap. Meanwhile, my last remaining previous version worked using the same method. The tripping mechanism on this can not be set to be more sensitive. This allows the gopher to invite all their friends over to eat your bait and then pack the trap with dirt, laughing at you as the make their way over to eat your roses. I returned this item.

Have yet to catch a single gopher with this updated version of the Victor trap
Had tried unsuccessfully to find any store that sold the older version of this trap (0625) which was built much sturdier and effective catching gopher in my back yard. My old trap has been sitting in elements for over 5 years and still looks almost the same as when I first used it. It also has caught dozens of gophers over the years while this new one has yet to catch a single gopher in the 3-4 months I've been using it. This trap feels to be made of much flimsier materials and the mechanism triggering the trap doesn't seem to work all the time when I was testing it out using a stick to push at it. It's also much taller than the old style trap which requires digging a much deeper hole for insertion against the hold. All in all I won't be purchasing this trap again in the future. Will have to find another alternative instead.

It works!
I wasn’t sure how quickly this would work but it did! Directions are straightforward and was easy to set up. The trap was set in the AM using some lettuce pieces for bait. A few hours later we noticed it went off. Sure enough a very large gopher was caught. Easy clean up and now we’re gopher free

Effective, inexpensive and easy to use trap
Trying to control Richardsons Ground Squirrels (aka gophers/prairie dogs) in Saskatchewan. Had bought much more expensive (and terrifying) traps that likely were meant more for “real” moles and didn’t work (seems important to know exactly what animal you are trying to trap and not get confused by local slang names for the various ground critters when choosing traps). These traps are inexpensive, super easy to set and to remove dead trapped animals. Bought 2 traps and caught 2 gophers within 30min of setting them out. Didn’t even have to further dig up my yard, just watched for active holes and nestled the trap tightly over the entrance. Third animal caught the second day. We will see if the trend continues. Only downside is the trap doesn’t always kill the animal instantly. While I’d like to eliminate them I’m not keen on having them suffer in the process and don’t love having to dispatch them myself either :( Overall, effective, inexpensive and easy to use product that would be improved by being 100% instant kill.
