It saved my first half- marathon
I decided to leave a review in the hope that my case would help other runners in my situation. I have been training for my first half- marathon for 13 weeks. Around the 8th week, I started to develop a pain on the lateral side of my knee, that would specially intensify as I walked downhill or down the stairs. I continued running, but as my mileage increased, the pain increased until the point where it was impossible to run. Three weeks before the race, I had a long run of 10 miles, and after the third mile, I had to stop. The pain was excruciating, and I was crushed. I thought there was no way I could run 13.1 miles. I rested for a week, but the pain was there when I went downhill or when I tried to walk a bit faster than normal. So I was at a loss and had no idea what to do. I started doing a bit of research and I concluded what my problem was: Iliotibial Band Syndrome. I was very skeptical of bands and anything that I read online that said to help, and I thought the best thing for me was to quit running for the last 2 weeks before the race and simply cross train instead. However, as time went by I was concerned that my knee was not healed. So a few days before the race, I decided to test my knee and went out for a easy jog. Disaster ! I had to quit and was not even able to run 1 mile. So I made the decision of not even showing up for the half-marathon. However, 2 days before the race, I was researching online for something that would make my knee feel better. I read many reviews and went to many running forums and websites until I stumbled upon IT band Wrap by Por-Tec. I started to read the reviews (which were incredible helpful, thank you all for taking the time to write them! ) and had a bit of hope that this might actually help me. Well, sure enough, in the morning before the race, my package arrived and I decided to run for 10 minutes and test it. At the beginning, I was unsure where to put it. The actual instructions in the package say to place it about three inches above knee cap, but the picture in the package shows it right above it. Well, I tried it both ways and I decided that three inches felt better. In my test run (one day before the race), I was able to run for 10 minutes pain free ! This was a plus, without the band, I would have been limping from my knee and in excruciating pain. race day: I decided to go to the race and give it a shot, what the heck ? I had been training for 13 weeks and the worst thing that could have happened was that I was in so much pain, that I would have to leave the race. I promised myself that at the first signal of pain, I would leave the race and be glad that I tried. I will not walk you through my thoughts on the race, lol, but I will tell you that with every stride I was waiting for the pain to kick in and make me stop. I was sure that it was coming and that I would have to abandon the race. So, miles went by and I was still running ! ha ! It worked. I did it ! 13.1 miles and the band stayed right in place and it kept me pain free all the way. After the 6th mile, I felt my knee a bit tight, but not pain. I hope this review helps, Safe running !

Good for aging IT bands and weak old man legs
Read some of the bad reviews, and did not experience any of the bad effects. I usually race one triathlon a year, and don't run a ton throughout the year, so I practice mostly for leading up to the race. Last few years my IT bands have killed on the 5k run, due likely to poor form and lack of practice/run strength. Decided to try these this year, ran a 5k 2 or 3 times for practice and a few shorter runs and did the race. No IT band pain! I'm happy enough with them. They do feel a bit odd when you take them off, but could also just be my lack of muscle and having to do a 3 mile run. Kinda look like an old man running with them on, so get shorts that may be long enough to make them look like base layer shorts ! Stayed in place mostly for all my runs, too, even with hairy legs. I do agree there is very little documentation on how to position these on your leg, but a quick YouTube search found a video and, while even that was a bit lacking, it showed where to properly position them.

Works!!
This thing works great. My IT Band Syndrome is non-existent when I wear this wrap. Only flaw, slips down after running mile 4 due to sweat and I don’t sweat profusely.

Magical fix! Perfect design and does what it should instantly!
Instantly stopped my knee experiencing jolts of pain. Very intelligent, well thought out design. Couldn’t be any better. Unless what you buy has the same features, pay a little more and get this one.

Not a magic fix for me
This was not the magical fix (for me) that some others have raved about. I was training for a marathon and in the final few weeks leading up to the race I developed pretty bad IT Band issues that caused a lot of knee pain resulting in my final month of training basically getting wiped out. I couldn't finish a run more than 11 miles and I was going to physical therapy trying to get my knee and IT band in a position to allow me to run my race. I ended up swapping from the full marathon to the half marathon and bought this band. Tried doing a few practice runs with it and it allowed me to run a little further before the pain started. But I still couldn't get a half marathon in. So on race day I popped ibuprofen before the race, and during the race with a gel. I also had applied voltaren gel to my knee. I ran the half marathon with the band and the pain relievers at a slow casual pace and finished the race. My knee was in pain for the next couple of days and have been resting it and continuing my physical therapy. Obviously, YMMV. It did provide some relief to my pain, but not a lot. I will give it three stars for my situation. But it is pretty reasonably priced so worth a shot in my opinion.

Unbelievably Great!
This product has made running pain free for my knee. I have runners knee due to ITB band pain. After about 2 miles running and then for many hours after running my left knee would be in pain. I first tried a knee sleeve but that only helped very little. I found this product and saw that for some it helped their ITB pain and thought I would give it a try. I was not expecting a lot, but even a little relief would be good. This thing worked beyond my wildest expectations. While running I have no pain and after running only the tiniest bit of soreness (not pain). I truly can't believe how well this thing works. I do not know if it will work for you, but at the price it is listed, it is a small price to pay for a chance at ITB pain relief. A few tips. On my first run I had the band too high and not positioned correctly. I have mine just above the knee so the band on the thigh does not bother while running. It is probably a little lower than instructed int he manual. I also had to adjust it farther to the outside of my leg than I originally had it. I had to stop a few times on my first run to get it right, but after that it has worked great. I would highly recommend you give it a try if you have ITB runners knee pain. It has made my running so much more enjoyable.

I already own one of these miracle workers and decided to buy a second to keep at work for my lunch runs. Despite lengthy ongoing physio sessions, stretches and changes of running shoes, I still suffer from horrendous ITBS once I get to about 5-7 miles. I can be crippled to the point where I can't even flex my knee a millimetre. When I wear this thing I can happily do a half marathon with no bother. It's been an absolute game changer. Yes, as others have said, you do need to position it in the right place for you, and this may take a few goes. Equally you may need to readjust if you're out on a particularly sweaty run and it slips a bit - but that's a minor bother compared to the sidelining pain of ITBS! I still get the physio and do the stretches and I daresay sometimes I could probably run pain free without it, but I wear it religiously and running is no longer painful. HIGHLY recommend if you are at the end of your tether with ITBS!
