Vertical Dock for 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display by Henge Docks (Previous Gen MacBook)

I, too, was hesitant about this dock because of some of the negative reviews. I am really happy I pulled the trigger, though, because this dock is great. The craftsmanship of the dock is superb - the finish and texture match the MBP like Apple made the dock themselves. I have docked and undocked about 20 times now, with no problems whatsoever with port damage or bad connections. I'm not sure if there was a product revision somewhere along the way, but the two Mini DisplayPort cables on mine both had bright red stickers covering the female connector that very clearly indicated that they were NOT Thunderbolt capable. No confusion there. They do, however, throw in the set screws and instructions for swapping out the Mini Display Port cables for Thunderbolt ones if you choose. Everything was aligned perfectly out of the box - I didn't have any of the trouble inserting the MBP into the dock that other people described. Lots of people at work compliment how it looks on my desk. I enjoy the space it saves me and the fact that I can just grab the MBP and go when I'm done work for the day. The best security is physical security, and this dock helps keep me from being lazy about that because it's just too easy now.

Like others have said, if you plan on docking your MacBook Pro and leaving it there, this should work well for you. I, on the other hand, transport my MacBook Pro everywhere I go and have found that that the dock fails to reconnect to my monitor far too often. I've tried unplugging and reconnecting wires, rebooting my MacBook Pro, hitting keys on the keyboard and mouse, only for my monitor to remain blank (not in sleep mode). For the money spent, this dock should have better reliability and reconnect to my monitors each time it is docked. I wouldn't purchase again and have considered asking for a refund due to the hefty price!

Very cool looking but the most un functional item i have ever bought on amazon. Its very very hard to pull your macbook pro out of it, the cables dont just sit right in, every time you have to wiggle it. it does not come with a thunderbolt cable so you have to spend another 30-40 dollars to make it work with thunder bolt, every usb does not squeeze in the holes on the dock... a waste of time and money for me. I feel bad writing a bad review its my first one, but if they gave me this for free i would not buy it. I bought 2 and am returning both.

I LOVE the design of this dock, it is SO sleek and convenient. I watched a number of reviews, and set up was easy. The only change I needed to make was to replace the mini-DP cable for a TB2 to FW800 adapter so that I can run TM on an external HD (Seagate 2TB; USB 2 /FW 800), the adaptor and the FW cable tuck into the base, it's tight, but it fits.I was having a major issue getting the LG 29" UltraWide monitor that I bought to work with this, but it turned out the Mini-DP to HDMI cable I bought didn't support the resolution I needed (2560x1080). Once I had the right cable it was flying. I'm temporarily using a MS Natural keyboard, and a wireless mouse plugged into an old USB 2 hub, along with my other 4TB external HD.Dropped in my Mid-2015 MBP Retina (High Sierra, 10.13.1) and EVERYTHING was just wonderful.... until.I started having MAJOR WiFi issues. Spent most of last night and part of this morning researching and troubleshooting. The issue is not with the dock, but with running the laptop in clamshell. Many other folks are having this issue with other docks, not just the Henge vertical.Without sounding like THAT guy, I bought this because I'm doing TONS of writing right now finishing my doctoral dissertation and wanted the larger monitor so that I could see more documents at once. The vertical dock gave more desktop space. I love this dock, but I don't have the time to futz with this. The reason I gave the unit a 4 instead of a 5 was for the WiFi issue, which I don't believe is Henge's fault, but it makes the unit almost unusable for me.Pros: Sleek design, sturdy feel, excellent cable organization, upright orientation saves desk space, nice "click" to let you know your MBP is seated properly. Take-n-go convenience, just grab your laptop and you're off, nothing else to disconnect.Con: If you're going to run ANY Thunderbolt external device (beside a monitor) you need to replace one of the provided mini displayport cables with an actual Thunderbolt 2 cable (not difficult). The biggest issue is with the WiFi.I can't say again how much I would love this, if I could find a solution to the WiFi issue.

This product is fine if you are going to set it up and never remove your laptop from the dock, but if you plan to use it to dock your laptop on the fly, removing it often, I would look for a better solution. This product is extremely cheaply made, other than the aluminum body, all the cabling, rubber and plastic pieces are poorly made. It comes in a nice box with lots of foam trimming, but the actual product does not function well. The power cable must be glued in or it will slide in and out making the connection unreliable, and by extension, the dock non-functional (since your laptop will go to sleep). There is no USB hub included, just an extension cable. The dock doesn't accept any plugs directly, it just has extension cables that connect to other cables, so it's not quite as streamlined and neat looking as it appears once you actually set it up to use. Given all this, it's definitely overpriced. I would not recommend this product and personally would not buy it again. Unfortunately there are not many other options available... Lastly, if you do try to use it as an actual dock, it will scuff/scratch up the shell of your laptop when you insert/remove it. Not recommended unless you leave your laptop in at all times and never remove it. Your peripherals/power will take 10 minutes to setup properly each and every time you remove/reinsert your laptop. It definitely doesn't 'just work'.

This thing is very well built. Sturdy and elegant. It saves us a lot of time because we don't have to connect and disconnect cables every day going from home to the office and back. It also saves us a lot of space since it is upright. Well worth the price.

Tolles und herausragend verarbeitetes Dock. Ich hatte vorher mal die Kunststoffversion für ein älteres MacBook Pro, die zwar auch gut verarbeitet war, aber nicht mit einer schützenden Gummierung versehen war, um das MacBook beim ein- und ausstecken vor Kratzern zu schützen. Das Dock hier bringt genau das und eine hervorragende passgenauen Verarbeitung mit.Folgt man der Anleitung für das anschließen und arretieren der Anschlusskabeladapter, ist das zwar nur einmal etwas aufwendiger, sorgt im Anschluss aber für ein absolut problemloses handling.Nicht unwichtig ist auch das Gewicht, das dafür sorgt, dass das Dock sehr stabil steht. Das Kunststoff-Dock musste ich beim ausdocken festhalten und habe es dann später mit doppelseitigem Klebeband am Schreibtisch festgeklebt.Fazit: Super verarbeitet, tolle Optik, sehr guter Schutz durch Gummierung und hervorragende Funktionalität.

I wanted to switch from using my Desktop PC with dual displays to my Macbook Pro instead and this works a treat. It feels nicely built and matches the Macbook well and the vertical docking frees up desk space. If you're going to use it this way, it's worth checking what inputs your screens have and buying the right cables. My screens have DisplayPort inputs (as well as all the others) so I needed to buy a couple of Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort leads as the Henge outputs are the same as the Macbook Pro, i.e. two Mini DisplayPort, USB and headphones. The headphone output doesn't seem to allow me to use my Apple headphones with Mic as well so I'll need a work around for that.I have read that some people have had WiFi issues but I haven't noticed any loss in performance.
