Rad if you're up to the challenge!
Okay, here is as honest a review as you'll find on here. Simply put...The GOOD: These things look super sexy. Nostalgia levels through the roof. I personally didn't find the teardown and install that difficult. But I consider myself fairly tech savvy. If you've never ever done anything like this before you might want to start with something a little easier. But it's totally doable! I got the "updated version" of the blue molds and I had ZERO issues with the button holes or anything like that that people seemed to be having loads of headache with on the earlier runs. I might have just gotten lucky though. The BAD: The biggest frustration for me came not with anything wrong with this product, but with Nintendo's. Those tri-wing screws to get into the joycons are a nightmare. I have a legit toolkit and am experiencing and I still stripped one. If this seller wanted to go above and beyond and earn a 5th star from me they'd start including replacement screws for the outer shells that are philips head. That would be sooooooooo much better. The only other slight complaint I have is that they are a little glossier then my original blue clear N64. You could spray a matte finish on them if it bothered you that much I suppose. Install isn't that bad if you take it slow and watch lots of videos.Overall I think these are rad and would recommend them to anyone who thinks they're up to the chalange of the teardown and install.Cheers!

Not for characters who aren't spec'd heavily into dexterity.
If you are a tank or a mage character, you might not have the necessary passive skills and base dexterity to perform this shell swap, either respec, or find another player who has maxed or near maxed dexterity. The ribbon cables, particularly the one connecting the inner shell on the right joy-con, require some finesse, as these things are pretty tiny and in some places are tight fits. Also make sure you have the right gear before starting this quest. low level screwdriver sets will strip your screw, and the game world only spawns the screws one time in your original joy-con shell, so once those are gone, they're gone. For any player accepting quests of this nature, I highly recommend investing in an ifixitkit. (the 64 bit set includes the tri-wing screwdrivers that you will need for Nintendo consoles. Seriously, anyone doing this should have it or an equivalent kit, they recently had a price drop so for anyone who takes stuff apart, its a no brainier.) Having bad screwdrivers and using them wrong will strip your screws. you have to apply a reasonable amount of pressure because the new shell will not have prethreaded holes, and these aren't exactly self-tapping screws.as many other reviewers mentioned, there are molding issues with the right joy-con near the + button. Another user uploaded a review picture that has the problem area circled in red, their joy-con is clear green, so just search for that picture in the customer images, and then sand/file that area down until it fits properly.Because of the issues with the molding, I cannot recommend this as a *product*. I can, however, recommend this as a *project*. The clear outsides really don't look all that great without sanding them first, and the shell does require modification before it will fit properly. That said, you have to have reasonable expectations. This is, after all, an unofficial molding of a product that hasn't even been out for a full year at this point. Even though the molding isn't perfect, I really do have to say I'm impressed with it all things considered. the Joy-con shells have some fairly specific tolerances and really, its kind of amazing that this aftermarket product is here so quickly with only *one* major flaw. If this is your first time shell swapping a Nintendo, id start off with a GameBoy or something first, there's a lot less to go wrong there.

Very Pretty, Well Made, but Do Your Homework Before Installing
Adendum, a year on: A downside in the long run, the letters have worn off over the ABXY buttons. Whatever printing process they use for the letters isn't durable enough. I'm not knocking a star off for it (consider the original a 4 1/2 and this brings it to a 4.) Overall still satisfied. The shells seem to be of the same quality as the stock joycon shells, and looks super nice on my switch. I didn't have any issues with sticking buttons, everything fit nicely. Installation took longer than it should have thanks to the right joycon being slightly incorrectly molded and had to be sanded to fit, see my Installation section below. I would probably give five stars if this weren't necessary.InstallationThree important notes on installation.Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, the right joycon (for me and others) is too tight near the plus (+) button and needed to be sanded down for the rail to fit properly. Remove the rail from the joycon and check if it fits properly. If it doesn't, there's a single tab between the holes for the plus (+) and the Y button that is slightly too thick at the base. See photo below. Carefully sand this down until the rail fits properly.Secondly, joycon internals are VERY tiny and can be somewhat delicate. Watch a tear down first, take your time and be careful. All ribbons are locked down, make sure you flip the locking tabs before removing them and reinserting them, and makes sure they're locked back down after reinserting. Do not yank the inner plastic pieces (with the Z buttons and the battery holder), as both of these are attached the motherboard below with a ribbon cable. Be careful with the placement of your ribbon cables as you fit the outer shells together.Thirdly, you will need a nonstandard, tri-wing screwdriver as well as a 00 Phillips head. These are available readily here on Amazon, just search "Nintendo Switch Screwdriver". Good news is the manufacturer includes replacement screws for reassembly that are the same 00 Phillips head as the internal screws. Note that there are two lengths inside; make sure you keep track of which lengths go where.Oh and obviously installing this WILL void your warranty.CosmeticSee pics. I love the way they look! I chose these colors (white with the colored buttons) for the resemblance to the Super Famicon controller. The only thing I can say is that the letters are very light on very bright colors and not very readable. The B button especially; white on yellow is very hard to make out. This is why the Super Famicon put the letters on the shell, not the buttons! Still, this is a small thing, as I know where my buttons are.The D-PadThe D-Pad (the ENTIRE reason I bought these, to be honest) is nice, about as good as you could expect from a D-Pad having to fit over the existing hardware. The center of the D-Pad is designed to slot into the center of the rubber beneath, approximating the feedback of a regular D-Pad. Very nice to have my D-Pad back, especially with Nintendo's nice clicky buttons underneath.

Offer nice customization, but not the quality neither the price
I got the say the Japanese SFC color layout is my most favorite Nintendo console design. White background + Red Yellow Green & Blue, and a D-pad. So when I see this I think it's a MUST for me to grab and the DIY is quite fun for me. (First Time I am doing this kind of customization)They offered a video for how to do it, I think it is good. But I still recommend do the customization ONLY IF you really know how to do it, or its risk is very high for you not getting a decent finished product. and here I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you TRY NOT TO DISCONNECT all the connectors within the Joy-Con, especially the ribbons, it will be much easier for you to find the correct parts and reassemble them later on. and try to peel all the double sided tape and put them in the new cases. However, I felt the product is decent but not good enough, the cuts are not perfect, the screw holes in the first picture is over-sized hence cannot be fasten well enough. The buttons are printed lightly and easily my B button was disappeared. The Right Joy-Con is not perfect matched, I have to leave a little gap in order to press the "+" button (I think the cut didn't leave enough space for the conductive rubber). In conclusion, I DO NOT recommend this product for the overall quality and price (2 Shell sets can buy a Joy-Con set for this holiday), just stick with your original Nintendo Joy-Con, and do some stickers things, unless you're really a DIYer with skills and prefer appearance over quality.

Cheap prints on a $50 product
The plastic used feels pretty high quality and solid, the look reminds me of Nintendo's own "new" 3DS. Unfortunately the prints on the buttons are terribly centered making it a bit of an eye sore, and for some reason the logo on the back wasn't centered either, and the B is hard to read because of the colours. At the end of it, I still have to chase down a 1.5mm triwing screwdriver. Disappointed with the prints at this pricepoint.

Look great!!
These are awesome! It's hard work to replace these shells but it's worth it! Anyone that gives these a bad review is just because the shells are hard to change on Joycons, which is not the fault of these shells. Research how to change them first and see if you can do it or not first.

These are great when you put the time into modding your J-Cons
These are great when you put the time into modding your J-Cons. Unfortunately I went into it blind and didn't know they use a different kind of screw driver. A 3 way edge tip, if that makes any sense? I don't have a lot of Tools but the ones I have work on other controllers that have very small screws as well. But non of that worked on this. Also there is no Instruction manual in this product. having the J-cons being so intricate inside, I was pretty lucky I didn't damage anything. Just be very aware of where things go, and which screws go where and things should be fine.I got the sucker Working, and It's completely better in every way. Mind you I didn't have a Problems with the Slandered Button layout for the Switch's Dpad. I can Play 2D games just fine like a Normal Dpad. But For Fighting game it was like Hot Garbage. which is why I Got this Product. Now it works great for everything.
